I was thinking an SBR on this platform would be interested due to conversion capability although I have got more than one AR-15 SBR already. But hey more can't hurt.
And I do like Colts. I thought the original variant was nice, but a bit heavy. Now they have the MARC line which seems to be a second gen. There are models with the monolithic upper and those with a conventional handguard. Does the later take any AR10 barrel for SBR conversion or are they unique to Colt? I assume the monolithic upper greatly limits the available barrels as wells as the tools necessary to swap out the barrel. Or does everyone just send to Adco and let them deal with it including a cut to SBR length. |

As I understand it: the AR901 upper uses a proprietary handguard. The upper is a machined down monolithic upper, turned down and threaded for the float tube. Still uses the proprietary barrel/extension. There are a few threads on the 901 in the Colt Industry Forum.
If you decide to SBR it, maybe do it as a 7.62mm. That way you can have a 300 Blackout (7.62x35) upper on it as a SBR while deciding how to shorten the stock barrel. Hard to say if/when replacement 901 barrels will be available. It would be great if barrel extensions were available for that Colt, so many caliber options. How about having a adapter block made that would take Colt or even Glock mags?! Not that I've given this any thought. Probably should have Form 1'd mine before that option was taken from WA residents. Hoping to get it back this year. If you decide to chop the barrel, getting it ball-milled while it's off would be a good way to shave some weight. |
