I ordered one of these up from Midway USA on Saturday, as it was on sale for $89.99 in their black Friday specials. Figured what the hell, it has all the tools, and even has a handy collection area that you can sweep the shavings into a pan, unlike most of the others, and it is priced way below most of the others. Anyways, I unboxed the unit, rearranged my reloading table (that's always fun ) and put all the bits in their own holes. It includes some mica dry neck lube as well, which I will put to use next batch of brass I resize.
I currently have about 3/4 of a batch of once fired WCC 67 .308 brass that has been re-sized, and the primer pockets reamed, and it had been trimmed, so it still needed de-burred. Good test as any for the prep station. I plugged it in, fired it up, and it purrs like a kitten. Even with all the bits in, it's a low hum, not loud at all. I have went through probably 200 of the cases, de-burring them, and it zips them right down, quick and painless process, doesn't bog the unit at all, plenty of power and torque to do whatever you need to do. Beats the hell out of using my drill

The advantage of the Lyman setup, as I see it, is that it comes with all the tools the RCBS unit includes as well as primer pocket reamers and uniformers.
Whereas the RCBS only comes with neck brushes, pp cleaners, chamfering & deburring tools, and the mica lube. ETA: Thanks for the review! |

I have been tempted to buy one of those (The RCBS version) over the years but have always put it off. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the vast majority of my reloading has been starting with new Lapua 308 cases and running them through custom bolt guns. I just always had brass in great shape I think and it didnt require much work.
Also, they seem to take up quite a bit of space for something I dont think I'd use that often. However, I am a recent 300 Blk convert and am going to be loading lots of ammo to run through my 8.2" Noveske Blk. That means starting with 1x 5.56 brass that has been converted to Blk. The guy I got my cases from did a nice job it looks like, but still. Running it through a semi will rough it up and I can see maybe having to do more brass prep that I used to, so maybe one of these is still in my future. Let us know how it works out for you on the more challenging stuff. |

That would have gotten all of the tools tested. I'm curious to see if Lyman's reamer is as good as Hornady's. |

How about putting it to the real test. Uniform some .308 and .223 pockets, for example!
What I am curious about is any sign of bogging and whether or not it grabs in the cutter and makes it hard to hold on to the brass, as the RCBS Trim Mate sometimes does when using the RCBS pocket uniformer tool. The RCBS one can bog in that scenario, but I have felt it was a purposeful design to keep any brass that grabs from tearing a new one out of your hands! Wear gloves just to be safe.
Also, see if you can figure out a way to measure speed. Perhaps by magic marking a spot on one side of a uniformed case sitting in the uniformer....then count the # of times you see the dot in 10 seconds. Multiply the # by 6 and you have rpm. Then we can do the same for the RCBS and even the Hornady versions for comparison sake. Then perhaps the thread can go into the gateway and be a reference for future inquiries. If the Lyman is that much better, both dryflash and I may be tempted to sell our RCBS versions and buy the Lyman.  We'll see, I guess.

We'll see, I guess.I do not load .223, but I have been playing with the uniformer, since my pockets were already reamed. I haven't found where it really grabs the cases too bad. I mean if your brass had not been reamed good enough it might, but I have had no troubles, just hold it firm between my thumb and index finger, and push down. It doesn't really bog too much, I mean it may slow a bit, but not enough that I can tell. Lyman uniformer: 
As far as RPM, its kinda tough getting a exact number, but from what I can time with my watch and count, it's close to 160RPM could be more or less. Like I said, tough to see your watch and count the thing spin at the same time

| I don't use the reaming tool but the pocket cleaning and uniformer works great. You can get some grabbing but only if your not holding the brass square to the tool. As far as bogging down,you can bog the motor down but you have to be trying to. When I was getting ready to buy this I read a few reviews about it being loud and have no idea what these people expected from a low geared electric motor that was designed to be used in lite metal working. This not a loud unit really doesn't take up that much space on the bench. I don't keep mine out at all times but when I drag it out it takes up about a 18' by 18' foot print (thats to give you a little space for your movements). |

Hell, I can still hear the TV over it while working
