EDIT: I'm going to asking the TFB writer to clarify the story.

RETRACTED:

Note to all readers. This information was in error. I had an attorney who represents many FFL’s across the country with license matters as well as NFA cases. I’ve consulted with him several times on these types of matters. He informed me there has been no change in the law or BATF policy. Local law enforcement does not have to do the fingerprints.

So nothing has changed this was an error caused by some rather unclear information on the ATF website.

My apologies for creating a stir.

Phil

Dear Silencer Shop

I am so sorry our government is full of a bunch of A-holes.  I still commend you for what you were trying to do.

I guess DOD authority is no longer acceptable?  Our HR person was DOD approved for completing fingerprint cards required for security clearances.  I just walked down the hall and used her ink pad.

This will go over well.

And you need fingerprint cards with the ATF's ORI already pre-entered? You can't just enter the ORI yourself? Of course, ATF. I'm not surprised.

I've been debating between continuing to use my trust (which includes one other responsible person) or going the individual route. Now this pretty much ensures I'll go individual due to the PITA.

Good question.

So they (.gov) are going to verify who took the prints?  How they going to do that?

From my understanding,  the first line confirms you must use their card.

Guys, this is a good thing. Getting the LEO to do your finger prints using live scan ensures the prints are legible to the computer reading it. Also, using actual ATF cards eliminates possible errors hand writing info onto it. This means less likleyhood of screwups or unreadable finger prints. Thus, theoretically this SHOULD speed up the background check process.

Look at the section it's in, this is for explosives...

https://www.atf.gov/explosives/qa/how-do-i-get-my-fingerprints-taken

The way I read it, until they actually create new Form 1 / Form 4's, this doesn't affect NFA.

This is BS.  It's like they can't help themselves.  Do they get a cookie for each time they make life difficult for citizens and business owners?  Regulatory agencies need to be removed, or at least some checks and balances.

As I said over in GD, this is correct.

Not all LE agencies do prints, and not all have live scan.  I've had LE-rolled prints come back for a do-over for customers several times.
