I think i have a unique question here. Even though i am on the younger side (18), ive enjoyed shooting guns of all types since i was 8. I am wanting to buy a SBR AK converted from a pistol. Since i cant legally buy a pistol from a dealer, but can be gifted one from my father. Could he purchase the pistol, gift it to me then i turn it into an SBR? Thanks guys, thought i could ask here since all of my other questions have been answered here!

Are SBR's legal in your state? You still need to fill out your forms and have ATF approval before you can alter it.

SBR's are legal in PA. +1 to doing the paper work first. I would set up a revocable trust and have yourself and your dad made the primary holders.

Isn't minimum age for NFA items 21? Could be wrong but I think it is.

don't think so, a buddy of mine has an SBR and he just turned 21. He has had it for a few years.

Yeah see, I am just as confused as some of you guys. Yes, SBRs legal in PA, Ive seen and read that people have SBRs and are under 21. It seems like a hassle to get it though, and the way the some of the rules and laws are stated are confusing. i just want to know how to turn a pistol my dad is gifting me, into an SBR (Legally). I was thinking about a trust but that seems confusing to complete also.

Trust all the way. Pay a lawyer who specializes in such things to set one up for you.

The trust owns the NFA item - and in fact should own ALL of your weapons (at least the ones that didn't disappear in a boating accident...)

IIRC, you can't purchase an NFA item from a dealer (form 4) if you are under 21 but you can build one (form 1) at 18 or older. Individual or trust.
