My review..well the person who made this is a genius, just print off the instructions, go step by step and take your time.
To the people of 5D Tactical, your jig is awesome!!! 
The design is well thought out, the idea of two cutouts to guide the pins on the router and only requiring 2 pilot holes, makes this the easiest to use and fastest jig to date. I started at 1215hrs today and by 1515hrs I was test firing it. The receiver itself took my 1hr 45 mins to complete. I used a Dewalt 611 router and make sure you use a drill press or a good hand drill. The only thing I would do different is use my drill press since my drill is old. The only holes that gave me any trouble were the small FCG holes, I think a better hand drill or the drill press will solve that minor issue. Between each pass make sure to get all the shavings out, I used a brush, but next time I will use a shop vac. Really can't add to much more, today was the first day I ever used a router and you can see the result. I just watched the online video a few times and followed the printed out instructions. Just need to add the bolt catch and it will be done, got in a hurry and just wanted to go shoot it. I put 2 mags through it suppressed with no issues. The nicks on the side were due to my zero experience with a router

Dewalt, probably one of the ones that modulus suggested in their router thread.
I have a Bosch Colt which while I like it, it's quickly becoming quite irritating as it gets older. Might pick up a Ridgid or Dewalt to supplement it. Freefall, good choice on getting the anodized lowers. |

Sad thing is I have 12x 100% lowers that needs parts and uppers
I have a green house a bathroom/2 other bedrooms to finish upstairs in the next month or so. I have plenty to do. None of the above are as fun as finishing a AR lower though

Can you run a 7075 aluminum lower in this? As long as the lower is mil spec, it won't matter what material it is made of, the 7075 is harder, so you have to work slower, but the jig has nothing to do with the milling of the lower as long as it fits the jig. |

Not trying to hi jack a thread but I just finished 2 of these lowers. Can anyone that has used them recommend a stripped upper that fits them well. I had a couple cheapies laying around and they do not fit well at all. |

I didn't see this thread till now but had ordered the jig a few weeks ago and it arrived Wednesday. I got set up and completed one of my lowers yesterday.
I used the Craftsman listed router and a new drill press. I will say I took my time and the finish came out great. This is a fantastic and simple jig to use. I only have 2 issues that bother me a bit and have pictures to share later after I contact 5dtactical. Looking at dimensional drawings of the AR lower the trigger slot is supposed to be 0.312 +1/-0 but the jig produces a slot about 0.045" wider and about 0.200" longer. Functionally I don't see this being a big issue just bugs me. I may have my machine shop make some inserts for the trigger slot guide. The other thing I noticed are the trigger and hammer pin holes are in the 0.158 - 0.160 range using the supplied bit and feel too sloppy for my liking. The next one I do I'll use a size 24 (0.152) bit then ream out to 0.1545. I know these are somewhat minor issues but like I said they just bug me. Overall, I plan to use this thing many times in the near future, it's a great product. |
Very nice FREEFALLE7 it looks like a mill did it, sooooo clean and no mill ridges.

I actually have a small, home built cnc mill, and I can crank them out faster with my router and this jig with much less worry. I have to watch my mill like a hawk in case it misses a step or the bit breaks or any of a thousand things go wrong.
I now have my friends over to use the jig and let them go to town... other than drill bits wearing out, breaking, getting dull, etc... no issues at all. |

Looking at getting their kit. To those of you that have this kit, have used it-
Is it worth the extra $40 to buy a spare 5/16 3-flute hybrid end mill? What I am wondering is, if it breaks, can I run to Lowes/Home Depot and get a replacement that is similar, or will I have to wait and order their proprietary design through 5D Tactical? |

I have never looked for such a bit, so I wasn't sure if there was anything out there similar. I went ahead and ordered a spare tool kit, for $50- why not? Nothing worse than sitting down on a weekend to do a project, and some special part is broke/missing. |
