Wanted to drop some weight off of an AR. The AP Customs hand guard sounded good, but there was not much info on their site. Their hand guard requires a standard barrel nut, that is not included.
The install is straight forward. Their adapter clamps to the barrel nut. Here's some pics... Rifle length handguard with barrel nut weighs 6 ounces. |

I have one of these too. The best thing about it is that it doesn't freeze your hand when it's cold, and doesn't get hot from heavy fire.
I was sold on the fact that it doesn't need to be glued on. Unfortunately it wiggles around a little on the three screws. I wish there were 5 screws instead of three. It works fine for shooting artificial targets, but I don't think it is durable enough for a combat application. Another criticism is that the gripping surface is smooth. For bipod attachment I think you can order a Picatinny section that screws into any of the slots. I had a left over T nut from a JP handguard that I modified for a sling swivel that works OK. |
| I have two of these and am very pleased. One is on a lightweight 300 Blackout and one on my 3-gun rifle. As to the bi-pod question, I used JB Weld to put a sling stud on mine for bipod mounting, works fine, although it doesn't look perfect. Alternatively, I have read that the magpul Moe picatinny rail sections attach well through the slots? I believe this is a stand-up company that gives very good service, before and after the sale. |
| i've got a midlength custom tube from them on a lightweight (6.125lbs w/ loaded 20 rnd mag!) build im about to finish, very robust handguard setup. I had them add some holes for a noveske qd sling mount & bipod stud for a troy trx rail. I have no wobble or anything from the mounting setup on mine. |
These are a nice alternative to the Clark Custom tubes. I like the fact that they use a standard steel barrel nut as well as the venting. I'm planning to have Liberty Suppressors build me one of their integrally suppressed .300 AAC Blackout "Leonidas" uppers, and will probably use one of these.
