13.5 inch SBR:

16 inch:  Started life as a Lo-Pro TROMIX upper, now all that is left of the original is the barrel, barrel extension, and bolt!  ARs are better than transformers!

20 inch Woody:

14 inch pistol:

16 inch TROMIX barrel and bolt (Yes, TROMIX is back in the .458 SOCOM business!), 7.0 pounds with empty magazine and TROMIX brake.  TROMIX barrel re-profiled by Paladin Machine Shop Service and dropped it a whole pound.

12 inch TROMIX barrel and bolt.

And a 10 inch TROMIX barrel and bolt on the far right.  All are .458 SOCOMS.

Number 9.  28” non gassed built on BHW blank.

I've always heard no to collapsible stocks but many of you have them.  Any problems with them?

Thanks.

The ACE M4 SOCOM, old model with the round cone-shaped lock, will not hold up to the recoil unless you lock the stock into position.  The new square shaped lock is still not rated by ACE for .458 SOCOM use, but again, if you lock it into position it holds up fine.  It only takes a few seconds to unlock and change length but you do need tools.  For tactical use it may not be ideal but I don't do tactical, only range and hunting and for both of those uses, having it fixed into position does not pose a problem.

Did you send your scope back to Leupold and have the parallax adjusted?  For 100 yards or less it would not matter but if you go to range where you need 7x then parallax misalignment could be a real problem, especially if trying to hit a small target.  I bought a couple of those NWTF scopes for my .458 SOCOMs but with their parallax set for 75 yards, I could not live with that.  $15 is all it costs to have Leupold change the parallax from 75 yards to the normal rifle length of 150 yards and it took them only a week to do both of mine.  Both my 20 inch and the 16 inch now wear those Leupold turkey scopes.

I had them adjust the parallax when I had the long range reticle installed  . the scopes are great but my idea was stupid. I should of went with duplex cross hairs and target turrets. I would not attempt a shot on a deer much past 150 yds and certainly not past 200yds , but I do like to play at longer ranges just to see if it can be done and lucky for me paper targets die prertty easy and hold still if I miss.

Big Bore, what flip up front sight did you use on your 20" woody rifle? I want to build a 16" dissapator .458 with a CAR gas system. DPMS makes a .936 fixed A2 front sight base that I could use but I would prefer a flip up sight.

Hi Guy!!!

The two are from the 1st Unauthorized ARFCOM Group Buy in 458 SOCOM back in August 2002.  I believe Marty wanted 20 confirmed buyers
and it turned into +70 IIRC.

The 2nd Unauthorized Group Buy in 458 S caused the creation of regulations in starting Group Buys.  I had no part in the 2nd Unauthorized GB.

I do like to believe that I had a part in getting the 458 SOCOM topic to the breakfast table.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/138911_20_Member_AR15_COM___458_SOCOM_Group_Purchase.html

You and Marty did good.

That is the ARMS 41-BL but it is only available in .750 size.  Here is what it looks like folded.  I really like it and it is rock solid, but they are not cheap, even more than the TROYs!   FYI, the actual gas block is a low profile PRI .875 at the midlength position under the handguard, the 41-BL is just out there with a short piece of gas tube in it to lock the handguard in place and is non-functional in regards to gas.

Changed the rail over to a Troy FDE with a low profile Troy gas block. Also have TAB SAS anti-mirage shield on order.

Planning on adding some BUIS and most likely will change the red dot over to an Aimpoint T. Really like the red-dot/ 3 Power set up for this rifle, especially with the 500gr suppressed configuration as it's basically a 150 yd gun, maybe a bit more.  The Primary Arms RD is fine but the dot is a bit big and blurry with the magnifier.  Also want to be able to mount a PVS14 behind the red dot if the urge comes over me.

Nice looking rifle. If you hunt pigs, the urge for the PVS-14 will over come you.  It is unbelievable, the follow-up shots you can get compared to a weapons light.[

The 450 Bushmaster.  And here is why, the brass is much cheaper to purchase, and also the factory Hornady ammo can be had for approx. $20 a box, I bought mine for $19 a box, and haven't reloaded for it.  Both guns are the same in accuracy, I can hold .75 MOA with each gun and have even got 300gr TTSX to shoot .5 MOA from my 458.  You can buy uppers (although hard to come by lately) for the 450 for just over $500.

So, if I could only have one, it would be the 450.  I have two 450's and one 458, with wilson going to sell the 458's, will probably get another one.
