Hot off the press from IR Defense Our new IR HUNTER MK II is a breakthrough in the 640 category at the lowest priced 640 system ever at $5,495.00 and made to the same quality as the IR HUNTER. Externally the new sight is identical to the existing IR HUNTER with the following improvements. 1. Sensor is a 640x480 MicroIR BAE 12um thermal engine 2. 12um Micron mean all existing lenses have a 35% increase in magnification over 17um Micron sensors 3. 40% power savings for longer battery life 4. Battery cap has been moved forward for easier removal and installation 5. 60hz frame rate in a 640 weapon sight – yes 60hz. We also have a selectable 30hz mode for power saving, the 60hz takes more juice to run. 6. 640x480 VGA Emagin OLED for an extra sharp image. 7. The display size has been reduced by 20% to make it ideal for both dedicated and clip-on operations. 8. CLIP-ON – the sight will work with a bunch of 1x and variable 1-4x, 1-6x day optics. It works as is with no changes and no need for an accessory. It will work perfect out of the box using the feature in the system to sight it in. 9. Image capture is improved and now will show the reticles in the images and it saves more images as well. The BAE core specs look impressive, I hope the IR hunter engineers took full advantage of the .5 mode the core offers.
Flir uses this on thier t70 t75 models for a wider FOV when used as a clip on. The 30/60 hz switchable is smart, as nothing comes free. Faster processing uses more power. The fixed focus lens is the deal breaker for me, I want to be able to get the best focus possible. The core looks like it will take some of the market share from flir as the smaller pitch will allow smaller lenses which cost less.. |

And the big $$$$ question - when can I rent one? thanks Lee 1.5x - $5,495 2.5x - $6,495 The Mk II will work better as a clip-on with the smaller(Mk II is 640x480 OLED vs the IR Hunter standard 800x600 LCD) display it will show more of the display including icons. It also will look quite a bit sharper since there is no image stretching from the sensor to the display. There's no way for me to know how much better until we test the unit though. I have not personally taken one into the field but obviously am excited to do so and report back. We will get them listed on the website shortly because the announcement from IR defense was just in the past few hours. There is an additional core contrast adjustment that will greatly increase the image quality. Both units will hit the rental pool ASAP so customers can start trying. As usual the try before you buy option will be in full effect. We are going to stay away from "estimated delivery dates" until we see units arrive. No money down pre-orders with the option to cancel at any time will be available this week. Just call in for that option. Also, for any current IR hunter 320 owners, those units will stay the same the Mk II is only available in 640. |

The best process is to bench you weapon on a vice or solid sled, and adjust the CO reticle adjustment so that your point of impact doesn't change from your day optic when you shoot with the IR Hunter in front of your day optics. It's a simple x/y adjustment. It's a little different than a dedicated clip-on, and you need to always have your day optics set to 1X. For now, digital zoom is disabled in clip-on mode to my knowledge so that there are no POI issues. Eventually there will be another adjustment to tell the IR Hunter where your point of impact is and you can use the digital zoom on the IR hunter in clip on mode. I also just want to mention that last time we asked for a firmware update on the IR Hunter standard model to fix a couple bugs, IR Defense had the entire process done within 7 days. That normally takes months when requested from other companies, simply because there is a lot to do even with a simple fix. IR Defense is on top of their firmware like a pack of coyotes on a 3 legged cat. Like white on rice. Like, well you get the point. I was blown away when they fixed the firmware in 7 days. That is an INCREDIBLE feat. They have employees in-house that know these systems inside and out like I have never seen at any other company. |

This hunt was on a night with terrible conditions for thermal. 80% + humidity with standing water. Even though the conditions were less than ideal we were still able to take 10 out of a sounder of 12. |

The IR Hunter MK III's stadiametric rangefinder uses a system of reticle lines with adjustable angular spacing to quickly and easily dial in on a target's distance. The MK III's stadiametric rangefinding system allows you to select your target's height or width then adjust a set of reticle bars to contain your target's height or width. The MK III will then give you a corresponding distance readout. Stadiametric rangefinding is widely used in long-range military sniping and is faster than laser range-finding techniques. Electronic laser rangefinders can also give away a shooters position, but a stadiametric rangefinding system is completely covert.  |

I took the MK III to the range last night. Very impressed with the new features, specifically the rangefinder and the new reticles. The 4 savable x/y locations are labeled A,B,C,D instead or 1,2,3,4 which makes it much easier to remember. I will post up a quick look at the new menu setup soon. For now, here are some high quality pics of the MK III.      |
