Good info, thanks for posting! I bought a ton of 4350 in anticipation of a Hitlery win and now I'm stuck with it!    It sounds like the IMR could be a good alternative considering the lower capacities of some manufacturer's brass.

If you haven't seen this article already.

Mark can sell his trigger at a much lower price because he is not going regular distribution.

Regular distribution would look something like this

$250 at 40% would put a trigger at $150 wholesale price. WDs would pay $90-$100 their cost.

UPS is telling me the LabRadar package should be delivered later today.  When I ordered I received a free USB battery pack so I can play with it on the range without burning up batteries.  I'll do an unboxing and post pictures later today, and I hope to get to the range Friday with the LabRadar and M3 for some comparisons.

Some packages arrived today.

Wife's rat dog is sort of supervising, well, okay, sleeping.

The LabRadar was boxed and labeled very well, and a bit smaller than I expected.

The two others, just because.

The small box has a trigger I wanted to try and at the Easter sale price, it was a pretty good deal.

The amazon box.  I'm still struggling on what direction to go with the wireless in the house.  I probably need to spend more time in the Urban Commandos forum.

The Labradar, baseplate, USB battery pack, SD card and carry pouch.  For some reason I thought it would be larger.  I need to do a couple of things for the wife, so it will be a few before I can unbox it and take some additional pictures.  Shown next to the router to offer a size comparison.

I unboxed the LabRadar:

Now I need to start reading the manual.

ETA - VERY IMPORTANT - The LabRadar's internal components can be damaged if you drop the radar unit.  Make sure you have a stable base that will not be affected by high winds or use a sandbag, etc., to keep the platform / radar stable.

I just got my first chrony a few weeks ago as I've been needing one to test reloads. I will definitely be getting a Labradar because they are much easier to use. With mine there is at least a few shots per string that don't read which is aggravating when each round is close to 2 bucks.

I'd like to know if you get and kind of difference between the Magnetospeed and Labradar. I'll keep an eye out for your thoughts on it.

Did you have a microphone hooked up that they suggest for suppressed used to assist in triggering the radar?

As IMSHAKIN stated, this is a known issue since the LabRadar uses sound to trigger the data capture.  LabRadar recommends using a microphone to capture suppressed shots.  I did not order a mic for my unit.

ETA - There are sensitivity settings on the LabRadar and turning it to the highest level solved the problem for me.  There are dropped shots once and awhile, but I can get readings with the SOCOM and TQ.

In case this might help:

Agree, with the M3 apparently being sensitive to the distance of the bayonet to the flight path, and ammo costs at $1.30 a shot, I too am hoping for consistency across the range of ammo I’d like to test.  As a side note, I’m going to be offering a MV testing service to our local shooting club as a way to raise funds for the rifle range.  While I doubt most of our members understand the relationship or have DOPE, I’ll see if I can raise a couple bucks for the range improvement fund using the LR.

Other people have reported slight differences between the M3 and LabRadar.  I hope to get out Friday and do some testing and will report back.

I'm going to fire up the LR tonight and get familiar with the controls, as well as clean the .260 and get it ready for another range day.  In the meantime, here's a picture of today's arrivals, three of the original styled LaRue mags (off the EE) and some Federal 210Ms.

I powered up the LR and confirmed the firmware was the current version.  Then I went through the menus and set them for rifle fire of a 130gr projectile.

Powered on and showing the blue ready, but radar not armed light.

I powered down and placed the SD card in the slot and then powered back up.  I left the unit on for several minutes, powered down and removed the SD card.  I put it into a SD reader and viewed the contents in Explorer showing a .csv file was created.

Some of the menu screens.

I'm back from the range.  I setup using the Magnetospeed V3 and the LabRadar.  I was a bit sidetracked finding a friend at the range and having to speak with him about the .260.

I fired three fouling shots to ensure I was capturing the MVs, then shot strings with the Prime, FGMM and the Hornady, and strings suppressed using the TQ. I'll crunch the velocities and place them in a database for review as soon as I can, as well as detail some of my observations.

Until I can get them into the spreadsheet, here are some pictures of the trip.  I wasn't firing for group size, I was trying to ensure the data was being captured.

My regular spot at the range was open.  The only people at first were pistol shooters.

I set up the M3 using a slightly larger distance between the muzzle path and the bayonet as it seems to be more accurate than using a closer distance to the path.

Setup using the M3 and LabRadar.

ETA - VERY IMPORTANT - The LabRadar's internal components can be damaged if you drop the radar unit.  Make sure you have a stable base that will not be affected by high winds or use a sandbag, etc., to keep the platform / radar stable.

A view of the M3 and the LR screens.

My brass was piling nicely at 5 O'clock.

Here is a spreadsheet with the velocities from today's range trip.  I was comparing the recorded MVs using the LabRadar and the Magnetospeed V3.

The M3 is pretty easy to set up using a strap system to clamp onto the outside of the barrel.  You align the bayonet so that it is under the flight path of the bullet and a couple of inches out from the front of the muzzle.  From there, you plug in the bayonet to the control unit, set the sensitivity and record the shots.

The Labradar is a bit harder to setup in that it has multiple menus that have to be set in order to accurately record the MVs.  For example, you set the offset from the muzzle and where you want the MV to be recorded, the weight of the bullet, etc., etc.  You then set the series and arm the radar, then take your shots. The LR worked well and I didn't have any dropped shots, but you do have to de-arm the radar and save the series, move to the next series and then re-arm the radar.  That was a bit more cumbersome than the M3, but once you get used to the order, it's easy to keep on track.

I also captured some MVs suppressed.  I did drop some shots but that was a problem with the muzzle's position in relation to the radar.

Also, I was not getting the downrange velocity capture at the 75 and 100y marks.  I suspect it was the placement of the radar in relation to the overhang that disrupted the Doppler pattern. Lastly, the LR has a SD card and every series / shot is captured in a .csv file that exports to Excel.

That's very interesting, the LR shows lower es and sd but the average velocity is fairly close between the m3 and LR.

I'd imagine there would be a bigger difference between a regular chronograph and the LR.

The M3 uses electromagnetics to gauge the bullet's time over a sensor path and then uses the known distance of the sensor to calculate speeds.  Since that removes many of the environmental factors affecting most chronographs, I would suggest it's a reliable and accurate device.

Okay, it's a rainy day in NoVA so today will be consumed with running Cat 7 wire from the basement to the attic and then to the bedroom.  I doubt I'll be updating the thread this weekend with data unless some questions are asked.

Looks like h4350, sounds like a mild load as a lot of guys run 44 gr under 130's. My go to load is 140 Berger hybrids, CCI BR2, Lapua brass, and 43.5 gr h4350. That is for a Tikka ctr in 260 but shouldn't be far off for a gas gun.

Thanks for the info!  I was thinking the gassers would prefer a lighter projectile so I was going to start with bullets in the 130gr range.  I have Lapua virgin brass and will be starting with those, and I have CCI BR2s, and Federal 210s and 201Ms to try, as well as a shitake ton of H4350. I'll probably work with the Norma GTs and the Berger 130gr OTMs.  I have to work quickly as I'm heading to Quantico at the end of the month to do some 500-600yard shooting, or I need more factory ammo.

ETA - The powder looks just a tad different than the H4350 I have, the color is off.

I ordered some 130gr ELDMs (projectiles) from Midway along with a ejector disassembly tool.

I also ordered some 130gr ELDM cartridges from Buds as they have free shipping on orders over $199.  That effectively reduced the price per box to 23.60 (I did spring $3 for insurance), or $1.18 a round.  That price was still cheaper than the lowest price I found ($1.08rd) when figuring shipping that would have been $29.10 (WA to VA).  That will give me a couple hundred rounds of Prime and Hornady in case I really do get to Quantico at the end of the month.

Been following the thread.  Thanks for the info.  I've got a FDE tAR on order and I'm considering ordering a 260 barrel.  If so, goimg with 22", as I can't see giving up the expected performance of the 4". this thread has pretty much sealed the deal.  I'll be contributing once I get it all in hand.

yea FGGM was about 13 cents more a round with the same shipping..  that is kinda what i was wondering which would be the better overall performer

ETA: they must have gone up a few cents now 130gr ELDM is $1.22 per round lol  I went withe the FGGM is was only a 6 cents a round more got 200 rd to try out..  And Applied Balistics has a custom drag curve for it and not anything for the 130gl eld match so i had to hand put in the info  from Hornady websigh..

I ran the numbers in Applied Ballistics at 1000m with a 10mph wind at 90deg and the MV that was stated in this thread and looks like the 130 gr ELDM has .3 Mil less drop but .3mil more wind hold and about 45LB less Energy compared to the FGGM load..     Did not run the numbers on the Prime ammo since it was $7 more a box lol

I did get free shipping so I ordered another case of the Prime last week, which arrived!  I should have another case of the ELDMs this week and heck If I didn't have more FGMM tucked away so, I should be good to hit Quantico at the end of the month for some longer range shooting.

ETA - Since the ELDMs are shooting so well, and the stuff is coming in at $1.23rd (versus $1.60rd for Prime and $1.29 for the FGMM), those could end up being my go to factory round.

I get some pretty bad case swipes from my bolt, I believe it is not the revised one that you have with the wider oval ejector. Does yours do the same to your brass with that version? If not I need to get that changed out stat.

I don't get any bolt swipe on my LaRue 7.62.  I do get some swipe on the .260 but I don't think it's "bad."  This is a recent picture where you can see signs of swipe on the top two cartridges, the topmost fired with the JP HP bolt and the middle with the LaRue bolt. I'm not sure how you classify the swipe, but it looks minimal to me.

Here's a picture from the first range trip showing the case heads where you can also see some minimal swipe (LaRue bolt):

This is the best I can do for now as I'm at an offsite PM conference and don't have access to the rifle or brass until late Friday.

That does not look too bad, some of mine would cut skin. I need to find that brass and try to post a pic to see what you think.

What are you shooting, an OBR with the older styled bolt / ejector?  What type of spring and buffer combo are you running?

14.5 762 tobr, factory stock, no changes to the system at all. I believe they changed the BCG out once, then they changed out the entire upper. But my bolt does not have the same ejector.

Same price as Lapua and it looks like it's annealed. It would be interesting to see it side-by-side with some virgin Lapua.

The 14.5 tOBR has a carbine length gas system IIRC.  That must be moving that BCG pretty fast.  Have you shot it on the suppressed setting to see how it performs and if it marks the brass?

That's about going rate for good brass, I paid a bit less for Lapua actually.

Damn this thread to hell, put an order in for the 22" 260 barrel for the FDE tar I've got in order. May have to put in an order for more  lapua brass.

A member has agreed to send me a few rounds to test.  The both of us will have virgin Alpha and Lapua brass to work some loads.  I was thinking of dropping alpha a note asking about case capacity.

That's the spirit!  I have a tOBR in 7.62 and now a .260 and was thinking of ordering a 14.5 or 16" 7.62 barrel to replace my field grade.
