| I didn't get an answer in the FDE thread, so I'll ask here. My 260 barrel arrived yesterday and that got me thinking on swapping it out and then I realized all my barrel/ vise clamps were designed for 5.56. So what are people using for clamps to hold the upper while swapping the barrel or muzzle device. Normally I would use the Geissele Reaction Rod for the muzzle device and then a clamshell in the vise to hold the uppper when torqueing the barrel nut. I still need to order dies/brass, etc for the 260 so it will be a while until I change from 308, but I figured I better get the right tools for the job. |

Alright, a few comments on today’s range trip. We focused on getting MV data on the Prime, Hornady, FGMM and Gorilla ammunition. We shot both suppressed and unsuppressed and again, primarily focused on using the LabRadar to gather MVs.
It was a nice day, about 70 degrees and overcast with heavy humidity. We left just at the right time as rain moved in right after we departed. How much stuff do you have to cart to the range?

Putting out some rounds: 
I removed the Vortex yesterday to do some measurements since I don't like the 1.5" height of the mount. I ordered a 1.18" version and will remount once it arrives. I was within 1/2MOA when I remounted and (as I posted on pg16), you remove the caps and use the inside turret adjustments so you maintain the zero-lock. 
The LabRadar sets up just to the rear and offset from the muzzle so the sounds triggers the radar so it can tarck the bullet as it traverses the radar's cone: 
Shooting buddy laid down a great group with that Hornady (0.540MOA). That barrel is going to be a laser once it gets a few more rounds through it:

Defender3... thanks for the great pics and informative posts! Good times running the Larue .260 rifles on the range this weekend.
In regards to getting the 18" .260 to run correctly, I tested various combinations of buffer weights and springs, both suppressed and unsuppressed. No issues with getting the rifle to function smoothly unsuppressed; however, suppressed was a bit more challenging. Running suppressed with the SOCOM 7.62mini and PST in suppressed setting, I had the best results with the H3 buffer and a Springco Orange spring: smooth cycling, buffer impact was less noticeable, good ejection, and brass was also in good shape. Of note, I am running a rifle length extension with LT spacer, and a JP HP bolt (difference in extractor and ejector spring pressure is also a variable from the factory LT bolt). |

The Hornady shot very well in the 260 and I think the Gorilla shows similar promise. Since I'm running out of stuff to post, the next project will be reloading for the 260. |

Absent more range trips, it's time to start working up some loads for the tOBR. I won't be telling most of you anything you don't already know, but it does keep the thread alive until more folks can post range reports, equipment / optic selections and impressions.
I set up the Forster with a Lee decapping die as I don't want to do any sizing at this point. The Forster has an auto base plate that is activated by a screw in tip, opening the base plate, which acts as your shell holder and auto centers the case. 
I segregate my brass to those fired in the bolt gun and those fired in the LaRue gasser. I decapped all my bolt gun brass and about 150rds shot in the LaRue while listening to the Sands of Iwo Jima on Grit TV. 
What do you do with all these primers?
Time to tumble the brass. I use a rotary tumbler with stainless steel pins. You put the pins and brass in the drum, add a shot of dawn and about a .45 case full of lemi-shine, fill it with water and let it tumble. The first batch was the bolt gun brass, which was pretty clean, so I left it on for an hour. 
While the brass was tumbling, it was time to divert for dinner. As most of you know, I have minimal cooking / grilling / BBQ'ing skills, so it was off to the Dove Shack for some ribs, beans, corn and slaw. The Dove had a wait of 45 minutes for beef ribs so I opted for pork. I took them home and fixed myself a plate. Say what you want, but they were pretty good with a bourbon BBQ sauce.
After dinner it was time to check the brass, it was looking good so I drained it, turned it to separate them damn little pins and dropped it into the dehydrator for 15 minutes for drying. 
Repeat for the gasser brass and I have two batches ready for some further work. The bolt brass is fire formed to my chamber so it will be the first brass I work. I'll then do some measurements on the gasser brass to figure how much to bump the shoulder, etc., etc. 
I left the gasser brass in for 90 minutes, but it looks like it cleaned up well.

Got the tOBR switched from 18" 7.62 to 18" .260, and still haven't shot it. But, Hornady ammo is ordered and a few hand loads are done, so not much longer. All the good info on this thread pointed to where I want to start, so, much appreciation to all you guys, and especially defender3. I have, at least for the short term decided to forgo the prime ammo. Even though the test target proved that my barrel appears to like it. I'll get to it eventually, but it sounds like a hot load, and I'm more interested in staying low pressure and see what I get accuracy wise first. |
