My Gorilla has the "P"; my Alpha has the "a" similar in style to the Gorilla, leading me to believe it could be Peterson brass.

The empty brass wasn't a bad price at all, the loaded ammo was 330 or so for 200 rounds with the berger ar hybrids, so I figured that is value added since that is one of the bullets I want to be able to use,

Might grab 200 more sometime soon.

Let us know how it shoots.

Do you have any MV data for your .260, I believe you’re shooting the 18” version?

Was the radius accurate? I thought mine was right on when I was at the 800 yard line.

Now that's interesting.  Mine is similarly marked, but my Alpha brass is stamped "Alpha" but it has a curly "a" to the side like the Gorilla / Peterson.  I ordered 100 of the Peterson's this morning and it was $83.95 with shipping to the Commonwealth for 0.84 cents a round versus the Alpha which was $112.15 per 100 or $1.12 a round.

Yes, it looks like it has three different lengths:

I started depriming some brass and getting it ready for reloading today, but I had to go to a membership meeting at the local range so today's tech update is pretty simple.

The local Izaak Walton has two small ponds, camping, archery, rifle/pistol and shotgun ranges spread over 210 acres.  It's a short walk past the pond and shotgun range to the clubhouse:

Going back to the pressure issue I created by having my ammo in direct sun, here's a quick update where I took a fired case and left it in direct sun for 5 minutes on a 72* day.  The first picture shows the case temp while it was sitting inside.  The second pic is after being in direct sun for 5 minutes on a 72* day.  I can only assume how hot the ammo was on that 90* day in direct sun.  I'll test that once we have another 90* day, but it looks like it will be cooler with rain for the week.

^ Can't, mark won't let the rest of us play

I just bought some of the FGMM 185 bergers to try out, painful to pay for shipping on one box of ammo but probably still cheaper than going to my local rip off of a gun store.  10 rounds for the tOBR and 10 rounds for the AI AT.

Understand, but there had to be more than 5 of us who bought rifles.  Hopefully those .260 sparrels will be shipping soon and we can start comparing notes, loads and observations.

What ammo was that with again?  Prime ?    have any issues with any other ammo under similar circumstances ?

I know back when me and @spartandieseltech first got our tOBRs and was looking for a good load for them..   we had issues with Black Hills 175gr being more temp sensitive to being left in a hot chamber for a while and shooting high because of an increased MV..   had no issues with FGMM and have shot that exclusively since

It was the Prime, which is factory loaded for a bolt gun. I took the rifle off the line as soon as I had the issue so I can't say what would have happened with the FGMM.  It was 90*+ that day and I can only assume the brass temp had to be in the 140's, which should potentially affect any load. Most of us are using factory ammo loaded for bolt guns so it could be at the upper range for pressure in a gasser.  Add ammo in direct sun and a hot chamber, and you seem to have variables that put my pressures over the limit.

As to the Black Hills, you also pick up MV when the temps increase, which could have been the issue, or are you saying the FGMM did not have the same elevation issues?

Sort of a tech update, my Mausingfield came back from LRI after being rebarreled. I had the K&P 308 barrel removed and a Krieger 1/8, 5R, Palma in 260 installed.  I had it cut to 24", the SOCOM brake installed and Cerakoted, as well as chambered with a Match reamer that gives me 0.095 freebore.  I'll have to get it to the range and break in the barrel, then get some MVs, then get it out to long range, but this closes out one of many projects.  Next up is a 6.5CM barrel for the LaRue, but that might take a bit while I decide what and how.  The next updates will start the reloading process.

Sorry for the busy picture but it's as good as it gets right now.    Awaiting the Razor HD Gen II, which will adorn this rifle once I do some measurements and determine the right height over the bore for a 56mm objective on a 34mm tube.

ETA - That's a JAE 700 chassis.  I'm a sort of old school type and preferred the JAE over some others.  I liked it so much I also got one for my M14.    I'm also still waiting on my Alpha mags which allow a longer COAL than the AI mags.

It shot very well, here's a 0.534MOA group.  I had barely broken in the barrel and then it was off to be replaced.  I think the .260 will do as well as I can shoot, so it will be up to me to eek out everything it has.  I also intend to leave the SOCOM 762RC on it and keep the TQs on the LaRues.

P.S.  Spuhr SP-4002 on a 2-day from Mile High.  Maybe, just maybe the Gen II will arrive in time for weekend fun, or the backup plan is to mount the regular old Razor HD.

You could shoot a string of fire..  you know get the gun good and hot..  leave a round in the chamber mid mag..  for a min or so..  so it would heat it up..  then the round in the chamber would shoot over a mil high at 900+ yards..    did not have the same issue with the FGMM.  The loads where using different powder..  ( don't remember off the top of my head am not in to reloading that much)  it was a pretty documented issue a while back..

Understand.  I read somewhere the Vortex subtentions are a bit thicker than, for example, the S&Bs.  I looked through one while I was at Quantico and it was clear and crisp and I kind of liked the reticle, but again, it's basically the same I've been using int he Gen I HDs I 'm shooting now.  Considering the shooting I'll be doing with this rifle, I can live with the weight, for now.

I’m hearing several people will be getting their sparrels this week so we should have some new folks coming to the thread (hopefully).

The AI mags have a steel strip in the front of the mags that reduce COAL a bit.  The Alphas do not have that strip and I needed a couple more, so I thought I’d give them a try.  I’ve still not received shipping confirmation, but the guy running Alpha is an active Fire Fighter, so I’ll give him a break as he’s probably doing real work.

Attend the class yesterday and it was a great time and learned some new things.  First, rifle performed perfectly.  However the combo of the rifle and Prime ammo showed some signs of overpressure still.  I will definitely have to watch the temperature as it warms up and pay attention to keep the Prime from baking.  Next, I'm 100% happy with the Vortex Razor Gen II HD - It was perfect, and between the rifle and the optic made me look like a much better shooter than I really am.  160 rounds down range for the day.

The course was great - learned a lot of new drills.  Was able to shoot at 100, 200, 300, 400 and 550 yards, both paper and steel.   The range was awesome, and I would be member if it was not 2 hours away.  I have one that is closer that I'm going to need to learn more about.  Highlight of the day was at the end one of the drills ringing a half size silhouette steel target all three time on center at 550 yds.

Additional information from the training:
-  chrono measured 2855 ft/sec in the mid morning.
-  Dope in Mil - There was a definite shift from morning to afternoon.  Not sure it the barrel is speeding up (only 74 rounds prior), the temperature/environment change, or a combination.
210 yards - .3 in the morning, ended at .1
310 yards - .9 in the morning, ended at .8
405 yards - 1.4 in the morning, ended at 1.2
525 yards - 2.8 in the morning, ended at 2.2

Excellent, it's a great feeling when you're banging steel at distance!  Sounds like you had a great time and the 260 (and you) performed well.  I appreciate you taking the time to follow and contribute to the thread.

The part the was new and interesting to me was at 500+ yds to hear the round fire, >.5 sec later see the target move, hear the spotter say hit, and then hear the 'clang' nearly a second later.  That time delay, especially doing the 200yd to 400 yd alternate timed drill, felt like forever.

Were you able to see the bullet trail on the longer shots?  It's pretty cool to see the bullet coming in from the 2 o'clock.

Those changes seem....excessive....at those ranges.  Plug the data into a ballistic solver and you will see what I mean.

The powder Prime is using sure seems to be pressure sensitive. Did you guys ever figure out what they are using? I have not ordered any yet.

Nope, not yet and yes it is temp sensitive.  It's also loaded to the edge for a bolt rifle delivering almost 2900fps.  Smokie and I were getting 2850fps so it's pretty hot for a gasser.

I was going to do a tech update with the reloading process but I hit a snag in that I have a non-bushing die and to get the neck tension I want for a gasser, I think it best to get a bushing die.  I ordered from Whidden and should have it this weekend so I'll do a reloading update then.  In the meantime, I do have this to add, the beast has arrived!  Yes, I'm a MOA guy (I cling to the past), so the Mil/Mil thing will just have to pass me in the fast lane! Seriously though, this scope is massive, built well and I'm liking these L-tech turrets.  I also like the reticle and while it only has two subdivisions per MOA, versus some optics having have four divisions, it works for me.  My Spuhr should be here tomorrow so I'll get this mounted on the Mausingfield and then it's off to the range Friday for some more range time.

I would tend to agree, but that is what happened during the day.  Confirmed the zero in the morning and again at the end.  I run Strelok Pro, and the calcs are not even close to what I was dialing throughout the day.  I was talking to the instructors about it, and they were saying barrel, change in temp and humidity, and/or the light on the range.  They mentioned a time lapse video that Vortex did (tried to find and could not) that had a scope focused on a target all day and showed how the change in light effected what you see through the scope (POA).

I was not . . .looking back I should have had my scope sun shade on to help to some of the glare out.

Now that's interesting.

You probably need to be spotting for someone to see the bullet coming in.  My shooting buddy had me spot for him when we were at Quantico and that's when I could see the trail.
