Those of you in states where you can't shoot to recover property can use it instead of leaving your fortified bedroom @ 0300; in Texas we can use it while on vacation, though things might get sticky if we were vacationing in New York while shooting a burglar in Texas.

While I was typing, I realized a pump action, bolt action, lever action, or revolver is no obstacle. In ban states it could actually change mags rather quickly or use those newfangled ejection port chargers - or just use multiple HiPoints - or you could use a drone flying around your house.
Another option would be to use a small propane generator - no concern about battery power, and a built-in flamethrower fuel source. |

Attack intruders in two zones, the face and genitals. FYI, the reason I put "robot" in quotes is I'm not sure I want AI in an remotely controlled armed mobile device. Particularly in my house. A semi-auto pistol armed drone is probably the best solution, particularly in a 2 story, I would think. No concerns about stairs. Keep it on standby, and if you have a 2nd story hatch, you can fly it outside to chase the getaway car - just to get video of the license plate if you're in a no-shoot state. But you could go nuts w/ a floor based robot. Armor, tracks, thermal, Gen 1 NV w/ IR floodlights, propane generator, flamethrower for outside use, fire extinguisher for indoors, 10 ga 3.5" shotgun for attacking drones, 37mm flare launchers, belt fed AR, and could all be non-NFA. For non-shoot states when you're not home, you could leave it w/ a Taser & pepper spray. A self-protective bayonet could be a chainsaw. And a floor based "robot" would probably be big enough to mow the lawn as well. And then you wouldn't have to worry about leaving the lawnmower unattended. And that's when AI creeps in to the design... |

Well, we'd want treads and individual feet that can take steps, we'd want some kind of taser/electrical device to incapacitate intruders, we'd want a voice box so it could greet or warn and we'd want 360 degree sensors so it could "see" in all directions at once, radio communications, manipulators on each "arm" to move things and open or close doors,and it needs an AI capable of learning and independent thinking.
Wait, I know what that is!

| I want mine to look like a Terminator or maybe an alien from the Aliens movies, dropping down from the ceiling on unsuspecting burglars. Seriously, I think in the not so distant future AI controlled security systems will render burglary, home invasions, etc a thing of the past or very rare events for maybe a snatch and grab. I suppose a determined burglar could use sophisticated jamming tech to jam wireless signals and cut hardlines, but those won't be the norm. They'll never allow AI to control weapons inside a home, but they will immediately alert authorities to a break in and provide details unlike false alarms from alarm systems. Drones will immediately respond and track suspects as they flee. Home owners might even have their own security/observation drones built into the security system that will follow suspects as they leave the scene until police drones can take over surveillance. |

Fully independent robots have too many problems.
Mount a track system on the ceiling and run power and comms through the rail. Rail also houses node points with cameras, microphones, etc. The robot can move room to room, gets around any cover or concealment like furniture or appliances, and using the cameras can even obtain firing solutions through walls. Its position on the track gives it a clear known position, and from there it's just a matter of letting the computer crunch it. If you wanted to shoot through walls/floors anyhow... shit, mount the "robot" in a fixed position in the corner of your attic. 30 rounds of .50BMG Cameras all inside the house. Each bedroom has a safe zone in a corner, large enough for one or two people to stand in, which is mechanically locked out from the traversal of the gun. Phone app gives a live feed from the cameras, and includes the options silent alarm (to call police), audible alarm (to scare off attackers), and terminate. Push a button, canoe the dude's head with a .50BMG through a few walls. Yeah, you'll have some cleanup to do after, but fuck it, you were gonna have to do that anyhow. Patching some drywall is nothing compared to trying to get all the blood out. No big deal. Mount it towards the back of the house and you can fire into the driveway/street to disable the getaway vehicle, too. Sorry about your engine block, fucker. The $8k for the rifle is nothing compared to the cost of designing and building the robot itself, so you might as well go big with the fifty. |
