I searched Colt and didn't see any other threads about this.

Colt is the only firearms company that's worse than H&K when it comes to reading and reacting to market forces.
At least H&K has the excuse that they are hampered by German arms laws. Colt could have established themselves as the dominant player in the AR market 25 years ago... but they let that ship sail. They have zero R&D and missed the polymer market completely. The one thing they do decently, 1911's, they still manage to screw up with spotty quality control and dozens of variants nobody asked for. Colt's been dead for 20 years, just nobody had the heart to tell them.

It's sad, I have never purchased a Colt, but have always wanted one. I really like the Commander Wiley Capp, but a DW is probably a better handgun. |

They don't do much in the way of civilian sales so the boom bust of the US gun market isn't a thing for them except in that they make some parts for export. |

Colt because you suck and we hate you.
Colt figured they would stay in the black selling rifles and carbines to Uncle Sugar until FN and HK took a big wet bite out of their asses. Then they pretty well ignored the civilian market for years. They not only ignored it but they pissed in our faces on occasion. Large diameter pins, nurtured rifles prior to the 94 ban, sear blocks, a former CEO who openly supported federal license requirements for gun owners and so on. Remember not too long ago you could only buy from Colts "sporting line" while other manufacturers were cranking out post ban rifles as fast as they could sell them? Then they wasted god knows how much on "smart gun" development and now their latest idea is to market a $3k SP1 repo. I'm not making this stuff up folks, they really are that dumb. HK has a lot of crappy laws to deal with on both sides of the ocean. Colt has no excuse other than they really don't like civilians and only lamented to selling their LE only models to us lowly peons when their tits were in a wringer. Hopefully they collapse under the weight of their arrogance and stupidity. Then somebody with a brain can buy them and unfuck the company. |
| We just had a Colt 6940 series go down, one of many since we switched to them. Replaced the BCG, gas tube, deep cleaned it to try to diagnose and no joy. Myself and two other armorers looked at this thing and couldn't get it to run right. Called CS and one of their tech guys, told him what had been done, and sent it in. 4 freaking mo the later it shows back up with a note saying they replaced the BCG, Gas tube, and deep cleaned it. Still not running correctly. What the actual fuck. The company is run by morons and determined to run itself into the ground. |
