Since the group buy section doesn't get much traffic, I wanted to let everyone know about this opportunity to build another rifle. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_7_121/1573019_Grendel_SBR_Group_Buy_Thread.html |

I'm out of the loop; I haven't built an AR in probably 3 years..... Is Faxon Arms a good company? Alexander Arms has 6.5 Grendel barrels for $195; how much better or worse is Faxon compared to AA? That's a 16", this is for a 12.5" for a SBR/pistol build and I've yet to hear a bad word about Faxon. |
|
I'm so disappointed that it's not an 18". I love the Grendel but I see it as a long range cartridge. I'm not sure why it's such a pain in the ass to find a proper rifle length 6.5 barrel. Lots of options out there but they've all got one flaw or another. AA has funky threads and won't sell their 18" by itself. Then there's the 264LBC derpage with a bunch of makers. My Odin barrel shoots great but is too damn heavy for the hunting I do.
I just want a Faxon 18" in as close to pencil profile as possible, is that too much to ask? |

How do the Faxon barrels shoot? That is what is important, do they group well? I have been kicking around building a Grendel, but probably not a short one. |

why would you chop off the legs of that round??? I have a 16" Grendel, but here's my take. Even with a shorter than optimal barrel, it's an improvement over the 5.56. You can make lots of complaints about the reduction of performance of short 5.56 barrels too, but if you're comparing apples to apples, the grendel is an improvment. I also have a bolt action 24" Creedmoor and a semi auto 22" Creedmoor, eventually I'll own a 12.5" Grendel (already have a 12.5" 5.56 and love it) and an 18" Grendel. I'll probably be replacing existing 5.56 barrels, as I get deeper into the Grendel I have less need for the 5.56 |
|
I'm in for one already. 12.5 Inch with my SiCo Omega will be my new hunting upper.
For those unfamiliar, I own 2 Faxon 5.56 barrels and I think they are an awesome products. I think mine are Hanson(?)And gunner profile. Gunner profile is on my work rifle. I haven't had to use their customer service but they seem to stand by their products. Also guys that want a 18 + barrel with a 5/8×24 thread, checkout Odin Works. I have an 18 inch 6.5 Grendel barrel and bcg combo from them I'm really happy with. |

Doesnt matter. 6.5 is all that matters. Get 6.5 and you can kill any game walking the earth. Finland did a survey and 20% of the game shot with it died 100% of the time. Quoted:

why would you chop off the legs of that round??? A 24 inch 5.56 has better ballistics than a 11.5 inch. Why would you want to chop the legs off that round? That argument is invalid. It's a handy length especially canned I don't think anyone here wants a 12.5 inch barrel for a 1200 yard target rifle. You're thinking about it all wrong. |

I've got a 18" lightweight pencil barrel right now. From underground tactical and anything more than wold steel case overgasses it since the gas port is too big. I need to figure a way to get into this buy. |

6.5mm Grendels do just fine with short barrels.... My 12.5 inch gun retains 1,000 ft-lbs at 300 yards Shoots well at 500 yards with an optic I'm interested in the wolf numbers out of a 12.5. |
|
And to add Faxon has jumped in on the discussion thread and stated this.
Quoted:
Please know that we absolutely will stand behind the work. If there is an issue with any part of workmanship, myself and the Faxon team will ensure that it corrected, all the way to manufacturing new barrels (if needed). I don't expect there to be any issues (were really good at barrels), but know that "sales are final" does not mean "as delivered quality is final.". |

Mr. Alexander's 6.5G is a particularly effective round in killing things.
He had written several years ago that a 10.5" Grendel would happily put Larue targets down at 600m where the 5.56 would be struggling. The comparison to a 7.62x35 is a fair one, but I'd like to see the ballistics of a 12.5" Grendel versus a 12.5" 300. You can have roughly the same bullet weights (110gr Barnes 7.62x35 vs 120gr Barnes TTSX 6.5G) and I bet the velocity difference at 300yds will be noticeable. |
