It's a small army, with an even smaller special operations force, purchasing a specialty/niche rifle. What were you expecting?

Meh there is a niche use for 300 BO, it wont be the last tender put out for uppers and rounds.

I think they found the need to go higher than 5.56, which makes sense to me.
Maybe they think extremists Muslims are going to target places in the Netherlands and need to make the appropriate preparations. I don't know enough about ballistics to know why they didn't go with .308

300blk performs similar to x39 with supersonics and similar to .45acp with subsonic (though there have been people who have stated some accuracy issues with subsonic loads.)

Think of a short barrel fa suppressed rifle shooting a 240gr bullet for close in work .

If 300blk has any niche outside of quiet hunting, it's with small SOF units that need an MP5 sized weapon that can still kill out to 500+ yards. A short, quiet carbine firing the equivalent of 7.62x39 is going to be hard to beat for kicking in muji doors. It's just line Infantry units where it's benefits aren't really worth it.

The article is incorrect though, it only requires a barrel change to swap from 5.56 to 300 BLK.

I think it is great. A way to keep the AR family current.
And relatively painless, at that.

AMMO is the bigger consideration .

Think about the AR 10, these are the Visionaries who saw the need for that system.
Forward thinking from the peeps who brought you Amsterdam.

SO much better than a mumbo jumbo of Johnny come lately systems,
Caseless AUG, with a rail anyone ?

I love these threads, because they assume the guy in charge of TO&E knows what he's doing. It's likely to provide a niche subsonic suppressed capability on a platform they already use with a minimum of equipment change.

I don't suspect there are huge numbers in the Dutch SF.

For specialty use, 300 BLK makes some sense.

Specialty use is the only place it'll get any .mil adoption.

Which is what the round was designed for in regards to mil application.
