So I figured we could start a separate thread for this. For those not in the know, Birds of Steel is a WWII combat flight sim on Xbox and PS3. It's made by the same asshole Russian developers that are developing War Thunder (previously known as World of Planes). Compared to other flight "games" on the consoles, Birds of Steel is by far the best and most (relatively) realistic. If you like flight games and you have a console, I suggest you get it and join the other Arfcommers (myself, Shane, Stryker, Roth, doomman, etc. on Xbox) in the sky. It's available in the marketplace for $30 (+ about $30 more for all the DLCs) or you can get a disc from Amazon for about $20. |

If it has all the stupid hokey shit as World of Tanks, I'm not remotely interested. If it's all that plus the same jackass developers, I'll actively avoid it and tell others to as well... |

World of Tanks and War Thunder have separate developers. And as far as I know Birds of Steel is pretty different from the War Thunder beta that's going around. The silliest mechanic is paying to repair planes, but once you prestige the first time it's no longer a problem because you'll have more money than you'll know what to do with. Of course the key is that Birds of Steel isn't some "Play 4 Free" nonsense, so there's no bullshit pay-to-win microtransactions. |

Birds of Steel is the best Pacific theatre flight game for console. Wish it was on Steam though like Birds of Prey. Negative! CFS2, and one of the expansions to IL2 has the pacific theater. Those a better if you are looking for a purer "sim". I have enjoyed playing the demo, don't know if I will buy it though. |

Yeah, I can't argue for BoS being better or even comparable to real PC sims. For a console game, however, it's far and away the best. It definitely has its bugs and physics errors, but I'd take BoS in Simulator difficulty over any of the arcade "flight games" that are on the market now. I'm glad to see you're at least giving the demo a try. I really think the bread and butter of the game is the multiplayer and online co-op. You can't get that in the demo. |

Hey... it's possible to land on a carrier. Just cause Shane can't do it doesn't mean it's impossible. Just because it takes me 3-4 tries to land and even then it usually ends with my biting my prop on the deck doesn't mean it's impossible. ![]() The one time I made a decent landing on a carrier was a dead stick landing.

Someone from Gaijin finally commented on the message board that there will be no new patches or DLCs for Birds of Steel, which is a crying shame with all the issues it had on release. That's not to mention the fact that they asked us for bug reports then did nothing for them. I still love playing the game -- it's the best option by far on the consoles. Gaijin also said that they will not be developing any more games for the current generation of consoles. He said they haven't ruled out future generations, but he alluded to the fact that the first parties (Sony/Microsoft) will have to back off on the outrageous charges they put on small developers for patch QA and releases. Of course the way they handled communication with their small-but-dedicated community has really put a sour taste in my mouth. Reading some of the threads for WarThunder, it looks like the same thing over again, so my interest in purchasing another Gaijin product (after sinking $90+ into Birds of Steel alone) has waned. Ruskies think they're bigger than they are.

I hope you not be some kind of bourgeois capitalist pig, wanting more than fair share of internets, Comrade. We will discuss at next party meeting.

Quoted: Quoted: after watching this game....its battlestations midway without ships Why is that a bad thing...? Although it's much more realistic. This. It's not on the DCS or IL-2 level of sim/detail, but the Simulator difficulty IS as good as it gets on consoles. No other "flight game" on consoles comes close to Birds of Steel's flight model and detail. |

Although it's much more realistic. the sounds are exactly the same, the movement of the bombers is the same and how their turrets operate... variety is nice...thats why i play battlefield over COD... battlestations is much older but the physics in the dog fighting is the same.....and it has battleships |

You may have seen a video of the simple mode, which is probably kinda like battlestations. And Battlestations came out with a newer game, Pacific. It's better, I still get on every once in a while. |
