My second IC-7200, complete with tactical assault foregrips, will, according to tracking, arrive next Tuesday. My first 7200 is at the club station, along with a second one there that belongs to the club.
Like my 7200 at the club station, this one will also use the LDG IT-100 tuner. I have the 7200 at the club powered by a Samlex SEC-1223. The other 7200 and some other gear are all powered by the donated Astron RS-50A that I told you guys about a few months ago. This one will be powered at times with the new Samlex SEC-1223BBM. That means it is equipped with their Battery Backup Module, power switching and charging for a standby battery. The IT-100 and SEC-1223BBM were ordered just a few minutes ago from Universal Radio. They, too, should be here next week. This will all go into an SKB case. I will also add some Anderson Powerpole sockets to connect the outboard AGM battery and solar panels, other gear. My present portable kit, with IC-718, IT-100, and SEC-1223 will all be left intact and taken to the next hamfest and offered for sale. The larger IC-7200 would not fit in the available space of my present setup, so rather than tear it all up to fit the various components in another case, I decided to just sell it as is. It is too nicely assembled to just waste all that work. It will make someone a nice first station or portable kit. So, my plan is coming together nicely. That is all. |

The 7200 was purchased slightly used from a seller on the IC-7200 Yahoo Group. I got a good price on it.
I looked at Ham Radio Outlet, Universal Radio, and Gigaparts. I preferred ordering both the tuner and power supply from the same outfit, all in one order. After looking at the prices AND shipping, the best value was Universal Radio. Gigparts offered free shipping, but the power supply was much higher. I've done a lot of business with Universal over the years, and when you get to the bottom line, they are within just a few dollars of the other companies. But they also seldom make me wait on a backorder. They just seem to have what I want, when I want it, at a good price. Yesterday Brown Mrs. Santa delivered from Universal Radio, an LDG IT-100 and Samlex SEC-1223BBM.
Today she delivered a box from a private seller, no paper, an Icom IC-7200, very slightly used, complete with tactical forward assault handles. I have a case. I need to gather some more items, but that's all minor stuff. Soon I'll have a rugged, up to date Portable / Emergency kit. I have tools. I'm going in. |

In testing the new / used 7200 on the air I found out this mic is hot! I mean, I had to turn the gain down to 40 (default 50, and many have to turn gain up to 70 or more). And excellent audio reports. I was going to do the mic mod I had done on a number of Icom HM-36 mics on 718s, 7200s.
Checking with the seller, "Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. I sent the mic to Bob Nagy - AB5N for his mic mod. He changed the element and some other stuff." http://www.7000mic.com/IC7200.htm Bob is mostly known for his mic mods of the HM-151 for the Icom IC-7000, but he does a similar mod on the IC-718's and IC-7200's HM-36 mics. So, the checklist: SKB case - check! Icom IC-7200 - check! Tactical front handles / brush guards for above - check! LDG IT-100 tuner - check! Samlex SEC-1223BBM - check! Lotsa Anderson Powerpoles - check! Well, time to get to work. And I have two buddies that are doing identical builds. Check, check, check! |

I'll do pics. I have to shop for small hardware. Will buy all stainless, nothing that can rust.
Will be doing this over the next few weeks. My two buddies have to get in their radios and other components. We've already built good portable antennas. And we've been working on solar, so that will be incorporated, too. |

Thanks Jupiter7200. I have been going back and forth about either a KX3 of 7200 to make my ECOMM box (actually it will be more of a home set-up), and have pretty much decided that I would rather have the power of the 7200 if I needed it, rather than the low draw of the KX3. This has pushed me over the edge (for right now, probably won't do any ordering until the next CC cycle  ). I am pretty much going the way you have gone.I think I might have a split battery set-up. One on the PS charger, another on the solar panel charger. Rotate them to keep them always fresh. Heck if I like the Icom more than my FT-950, I might just relegate the Yaesu to a back-up status! |
's that are coming along that will be wanting a Good HF Station (already packaged)....consider giviing the EE a go before you FO.

How big of a deal is it that the 7200 doesnt do FM?? Im still a newb and play mostly on SSB.
Local Elmer tells me to use my 7000 instead of purchasing a 7200 for this project because tne 7200 doesnt do FM. Am i wrong to still want a 7200??? In O.D........with tactical handles?? |

I've been busy due to work. Hey, gotta do something to support my ham and gun habit.
Last week I had some sheet aluminum cut to size at a local boat shop. They manufacture aluminum boats, but the layout is done via CNC and they have very little waste. They get their money's worth from a sheet of aluminum, which they told me is 4' wide. So, $72.00 later I had the aluminum cut for three SKB cases. As mentioned before, two buddies are building identical kits. I now have the SKB case, which is SKB iSeries 2217-8 without foam. http://www.skbcases.com/industrial/products/prod-detail.php?d=s17&id=636&s=s This is a waterproof case, like Pelican. I purchased it from Quality Cases & Containers in Richardson, TX for $140 + $15 shipping. http://qualitycases.com/ This case measures inside dimensions 22" long x 17" wide x 8" deep. The three pieces of aluminum were cut 21.5" x 16.5" to fit neatly inside with a little gap all around. The 7200, 1223BBM, and IT-100 will all bolt in to the aluminum sheet. I have a way to tilt that assembly up for a good viewing angle and operate within the open SKB case, or completely remove it from the SKB case and place on a desk or table as one unit. Sorry, no photos yet, but will have some in a week or two. |
