Some critical nuggets of info from the links:
That's mine. I used a flip-up rear sight. When I first approached Dave
with this idea I just wanted him to grind the ears down and tack weld
the steel base of the rear flip-up that I had machined down to a nub. He
took a different approach and gutted the ar-15 and he told me he just
milled a new hole. Works perfect and still have plenty of adjustment
with front sight. Next project I want him to mill a slot on the flip-up
fron sight and epoxy a tritium vial vertical to it. That way I have a
CQB "post" that I can flip up for low-light levels or flip down for the
standard screw in post. Dave Brackett loves to take peoples ideas and
run with them!!
If you want to talk to Dave about the particulars his number is 706-333-1366.

Sorry guys-Dave is no longer doing this mod. He has stopped working on
AK's all together. He is slammed with all sorts of repair work and other
prototype work. Plus he no longer will work on them after a customer
had a bolt go through the rear sheetmetal cover and seriously cut his
face up. Dave believes the AK is a bad design that will not work if
there is a double charged round because he has found some AK's to be
crimped at the piston tube with no relief of excessive pressure
possible. He considers that a liability for him if he was the last one
to work on it so he won't take them anymore.

Anyhow, it sounds to me like this requires increasing the diameter of the transverse hole in the rear sight housing. Simple install? For someone who has a drill press and isn't afraid to start removing metal from their krink cover, sure.
