the A2 lower indicates a M4/M4A1.

IF it were a A1 lower, with a 14.5" barrel, it would likely be a rebarreled MK18.

maybe?

I'm a little different. I run an S&S Precision 6V IFM Rigid. I love it. You can't really get more low profile. Not exactly "clone" correct, but it's what I like.

Post pics when you do, I am interested.

Well, I hit the ~1000 round mark on mine.  After following the plethora of gas port postings, I wanted to see what the limits of this barrel were for cycling with heavy buffers.  One FTF with a WolffXP and an H2 at the beginning of a full mag of PMC Bronze (my one and only mag of that stuff)

855 and 193 eject right at 4:00-5:00 with this set up on the DD barrel

I need a can.

Even I  have a SOCOM cut down barrel on the Block II CQBR FSP upper....(got a good deal on it new, and will not spend $300 to get the proper .gov profile Colt barrel....which would be a COLT 6920 cut down for me )  But am debating selling the DD gov barrel for the NON FSP CQBR upper and going with a SOCOM as well.

I'm really debating on keeping the SU230 on the Block II M4 or putting it on my Mk18. I have an SU231A thinking it would be good for the SBR but I'm also thinking that I could probably consolidate the use of both rifles into a smaller package and just get rid of the Block II M4 when my Mk18 is done.

This was discussed before in the last thread or BkII thread, IIRC, they only fit on the 1 and 11 positions(not 5 and 7)

$130 is a bit steep for a mount, think I would opt to spend the few extra bucks and buy their mount/body combo.

The MK18 is getting a new Cerakote job tomorrow. I previously had a custom blend of FDE that was slightly darkened and green-ed. It was okay... but just... okay.

Cerakote came out with a new color called Austrian FDE and it's AWESOME. Doing the whole rifle in that color. I'll post the results.

What I have gathered from this thread, is that besides the specific barrel configuration, just about anything goes. We have seen every single type of iron sight/optical sight/grip/stock/sling/sling mounts used on various Mk18 type rifle imaginable in the wild. I don't think the spirit of this thread is about the rifles as they come off the rack before individuals do their magic; it is not about the individual modifications as much as it is about the issued SOPMOD Block II kit -- which as far as I know the modifications we saw in the author's post were either personally bought equipment or COTS stuff that isn't issued widespread as part of the SOPMOD kit. His last picture was probably the closest to what most people in the thread approve of as being in theme with the thread -- a Mk18 with some personal modifications like stock and pistol grip, but keeps the barrel length, rail system, optic, etc.

One should be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. I believe the greater challenge comes in being as accurate as possible. To me, striving for that goal has been far more enjoyable. From time to time I think its refreshing to see how people who receive these "as issued" make them their own. I don't desire to recreate what they have done nor to use it as an excuse for accepting or using non standard items. That is all.

True but, the problem is that there is has been so much noise generated within the clone threads that you get posts like this:

No offense meant to Takdriver.

The original intent of the clone threads, at least what I thought was the intent, was to help the guys who don't have a Mk18, CQBR and/or Block II sitting in the gear room recreate one.

Hey thanks for posting those "block 1.5, PR or whatever" pics. I love that setup, I'm having a hard time justifying the SU233 for my own "klone" though. I've heard alot of comments of it being less than desirable in terms of function. You guys had any problems with them holding up?

They aren't as bright as modern LEDs, but part of that is they are incandescent (if you're talking a real-deal SU-233/PVS). The incan bulbs are more prone to breakage (I think this is generally true across the board) than LEDs and use up more batteries, but they perform better in fog and smoke than LED. When you focus the SU-233/PVS head down, it actually does a pretty decent job. The LED bulb is brighter and has excellent spill--I would say that it does well to about 40 yards or so. It's not going to out-throw a SureFire M600C, but the latter is not going to spill as well as the M3X LED conversion.

The kits that have the M3X with dual push-button remotes are a good value in the $200-$225 range. Just my $0.02.

The rub is that actual SU-233s are hard to find and typically are modified. So, for the same price, it's tough to not just go with a M600C Scout light that is pretty much identical to those purcahsed/issued and routinely seen in pics.

FYI, OpticsPlanet has the VBL-000-A26 and VBL-000-A27 models for hundreds less than anywhere else I checked. Plus, after having let the VBL-000-A27 sit in the cart for 45 or so minutes, OP sent me an email with a coupon code for $45 off. I'd post this in the deals thread but this is more clone-specific. I see these going for $400 all the time in EE and I just spent slightly over that for a brand new one with free shipping.

If you're going to clone a rifle in the wild, I think you should clone it to the dot. Not pick and choose parts from every single gun you've seen in the wild to make a bastardized MK18/CQBR.

I'm not a die hard clone guy though, but I would rather see the issued ones or an exact copy of a rifle you saw in the wild like the one with the offset T1 or like is in the article.

You're entitled to your opinion, but mine is that this is silly.

That's all these weapons are: issued weapons with approved SOPMOD accessories. Depending on what's available to them, I imagine they are free to configure as they wish. The real point here is to have an as-issued base weapon with SOPMOD (here, Block II) approved accessories.

That's fair. I just don't care too much if someone uses the wrong KAC backup sight because we've seen them used. But the really one-off guns are interesting.

That being said, I love mine the way it is and it's pretty close to clone correct.

This.

I have no problem whatsoever with building whatever one wants and making deliberate deviations from as-issued...but one should know what those deviations are.
