That has to be as close to impossible as it gets.
ETA: And hell, is it the right move to firewall it here? As soon as you realize the mistake you made by that funny sound of aluminum scraping asphalt, just shut that bitch down and hope you keep it in one piece. He could have easily have got it back off the ground and stalled in. Which would be bad. |

Soooooo, will something like this total an aircraft? I assume after an impact like that both engines need to be completely torn down/rebuilt. The air frame needs to be looked over totally, etc. Right? A nice gentle scraping can usually be repaired. Yes to the props being totaled. Personally, I would rebuild the engines. I have heard of engines being inspected and ok'd to fly after a strike, especially if the strike causes the engine/s to stop. Aerostar being mid-wing may have helped immensely. Here is the plane for sale: (not sure when this was posted, no mention of hull damage) http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/aircraft/Multi+Engine+Piston/1970/Aerostar/601/2076612.html |

Don't laugh. I know a Herc(C-130) that did that very thing. Warning horn and all. Quoted:

Wonder if the gear warning horn was blowing and he was like "what's that going off for?" Don't laugh. I know a Herc(C-130) that did that very thing. Warning horn and all. I've known a couple good, experienced pilots that have landed gear up. The right distraction at the right time can provide for what I am sure is a very special 'oh shit' moment. |

Bent/damaged props can cause havoc with balance, add that he did go to full throttle, he is lucky that he didn't rip the engines from the mounts. |

He got extremely lucky that he was able to climb out after damaging his props like that. Amazing. Continuing with the gear-up landing after initial prop contact would probably have been smarter than firewalling it, but somehow this guy got away with it. I wonder if some nice gentleman from the FAA will be giving him a call. |

Are planes of that size equipped with them? I know commercial aircraft are but what about smaller ones? Quoted:
