First off let me introduce myself my name is Murphy. I come to you, You are obviously high caliber mostly experts in many fields. So its this question I pose to you. BTW I'm not a nut job (I don't think anyway). My question is this, is America (which I love) being set up for a fall. I mean, malicious spikes in the Gas prices. Ultimately will smoother our economy... am I right? Is Russia or China really looking at us as weakened i.e. Is our military divided and weak, if the economy in the US is bad it shows them capitalism is capable of a claps and communism is the one on the top now. The countries that supply us this oil are not our buddies. My question ultimately is this: What are we training for with our high tech high power military grade hobby. Is there a subconscious thought that we may be in for an invasion from a belligerent (very big) country. Why does the average dude in this forum have more than one high grade weapon (and thats ok by me). Our gear that we buy readily from blackhawk and others is a nice addition to a well armed militia. This was just a question to you I mean ZER0 disrespect. I just wanted to know if we are gonna be invaded in the sometime near future thats all. So please don't flame me. |
what's a 'high grade' weapon? |

Uhmmmmmmmm... An armed population is one hell of a deterrant. A trained armed population is more so. Your economics suck. Go talk to a financial expert. Oil will never smother our economy. There are multiple solutions that were waiting for this moment, when the gas prices are up, to get the attention they should have gotten years ago. Such as the oil in the midwest, tons of it, that will be cost effective when gas if five dollars a gallon... almost there. Multiple technologies that can replace oil such as one example, a bacteria that excretes... crude oil. The technology is there. Anyway, back to your original question. Why do we train? Because we are a free people and want to stay that way. Deterrant through threat of force. |

| As for your regard to oil prices. Oil is artificially inflated right now, as soon as some buyers realize this you can expect the price to plummet, much like the housing bust, and drop back to a reasonable price. Don't hold me to the numbers but china demands something like 920 million barrels yearly and speculators right now are demanding 840 million yearly. Thats like putting another super country in the race for oil, once buyers become sellers you can surely expect oil to pop. Once again I cant remember if that was millions or billions of barrels but you get the point above. Oil prices = fake. |

This thread is making me nervous. Please keep replies limited to answering the fundamental question "why do we train" and omit any references to oil, foreign invasion, militia's and economic collapse, etc. or this thread will be moved to the survival forum. Thanks. |

I train so I know what I can do good and realize where I need improvement. I also like to train so I understand just how my weapon and support items will function under "field condition" use. Nothing worse than having a rifle, pistol, mags, holsters, lights, and what not and never using them in "run and gun" style shooting. You will be shocked to find that some stuff just does not work as expected or is not comfortable to use. Training makes you more efficient with what you have. |

Boy it would be easy to go off on this one. First I think it highly unlikely that we will ever be invaded by another country (but the possibility does exist.) I think other events are more likely that would require me to use a rifle. And, if all I was worried about was home invasion I would just practice with a pistol and/or 870... so that's not what I'm talking about. Whoever has any idea in their head as to why they might NEED a good rifle and the skill to use it is as likely to be wrong as right, there are simply to many possibilities. But if yo do it right, training for one is training for them all- from home invasion (most likely) to zombies (least likely.) So I have rifles, gear, some ammo and I practice with it and encourage others to do the same. I would be remiss if I did not mention there is a fun factor as well. It's my hobby, I meat people through it etc. But all in all I enjoy SCUBA more... yet spend way more time and money on the training. |
