Does anyone have a recommended shape for make some reactive targets out of AR500, particularly for CQB training? Also, how close would you be willing to safely shoot at AR500 with 5.56? |
Me? I have seen the effects of splashback from shooting steel and it ain't pretty. I would not feel comfortable inside 25M with FMJ. However, I make it a strict policy that inside 50M, I use and advise the use of frangible ammo for steel. |

Are you making these targets yourself? If so, I'd like to suggest a target "shape." A shape that will make shooting safer, and also help the target retain it's usability. Make the target an oval shape; when you attach it to its support arm, angle the target 45 degrees. Angle it so that (a) the bullets deflect downward, and (b) from the shooter's standpoint, the target appears to be round! ETA for pic
