... what is the difference?
We have monthly matches which I've been trying to make to, but life has always intervened making my attendance less than stellar. The next match is a classifier, but I'm not really sure what that means. Should I plan on going to that one or is a classifier geared for better shooters? (I suck at IDPA so far, but love the atmosphere and challenge). So should sit the classifier out and wait for the regular match the following month? Any insight would be great. Thanks! |

Go shoot it. Shoot safe and have fun.
You will do much better at it once you have shot a couple of matches and even better once you have done a classifier. Search it on the web and you will find details of the target setup. Remember the winner does not win $1,000,000 so do not worry about your score. |

The classifier is simply a 90 round match made up of a bunch of very specific short strings to gauge your general skill level. You should definitely go and shoot it. As a less experienced shooter, it will show you the (many?) skills you might want to work on. It's not everything you need to be good at to be a good IDPA shooter, but it does cover a lot of the fundamentals.

The classifier match is primarily set up to allow people to get their initial classification or demonstrate improved skills, possibly leading to a new (higher) classification. You can only go up, not down.
In addition there are no "run and gun" stages, only short stand and fire, or stand reload fire etc stages. IMO not as fun as a normal match, but highly recommended if you are currently unclassified |
