The Daily News has a most likely ghost-written op-ed calling for the legislature to enact microstamping.

It will effectively block all sales of new pistols as the tech doesn't work and cannot be implemented.

Current bill numbers are A-7926, which has been on 3rd Reading since January, and S-4116.

Our only hope is strict scrutiny in June...then years of lawsuits to get rid of these dumbass laws.

These politicians are literally the dumbest mother fuckers in the world.

We will have to see who writes the opinion. The current theory is that it will either be Thomas ( ) or Barrett ( ) based on the lack of opinions issued by them so far this term. IIRC, both Scalia and Thomas wanted to go full rights on the Heller ruling but had to appease Kennedy with wishy-washy language that leaves us where we are now. If Thomas is writing it, he does not have to appease Roberts so there is a good chance it will be at least 5 to 4 for a very strong 2A rights ruling.

But as you note, it will takes years, if not a decade or more, to undo years of restrictions. Plus New York's Sullivan Law is not going anywhere any time soon since licensing was not on the agenda or places that can be restricted. I fully expect the legislature to carry though on their threat to make most of New York State a restricted area. That of course will be yet another court case

A quality a professional ruling would make it all crystal clear.  I don’t expect that though.

Microstamping is like the failed COBIS case collection.

In theory its a case cracker. In reality, it doesn't work, will cost millions per year with nothing to show for it, and will quickly be abandoned after its shown what an embarrassing failure it is.

COBIS wasted millions and was never once used to solve a criminal case...

They never even found the money to create the ammunition background check system, where will they find the millions to create a database for a technology that doesnt exist yet....

They might even pass this stupid law, but they wont be able to enact it. It would take about three seconds to have a federal judge give it the smack down on the simple basis of there is no manufacturer that makes a compliant pistol, PLUS the technology to make it work doesnt exist. The injunction would arrive faster then the law did. Same crap as the 7 round mag limit that was smacked down in the safe act.

Death by a thousand cuts is their goal.  Make firearms ownership in NY as difficult as they possibly can.  If a statute is ruled unconstitutional keep throwing 2 more on the books to replace it.  New York government is a criminal enterprise and you know what constituents they represent.

I've called every sponsor and co sponsor in both the assembly and Senate explaining to them the Idiocracy of this bill...and the damage it would do.

Some were genuinely surprised, which is often the case...some were true believers.
