What is it like there? Black rifle friendly gun ranges nearby?  What about the night life? Are apartments expensive? If you can think of anything else, please let me know.

Night life in Dallas area...anything you like about big-city night life is available in the area...and then some..Apartments may get scarce real soon with the evacuees from the Gulf Coast taking up residence...
There are numerous gun ranges available in the Dallas-Fort Worth area...and lots of ARFCOM members in the area...we're a friendly bunch (especially since you are from the South)  and a few have land and welcome other Black Rifle shooters...you won't have a problem (even if you're a damyankee)...Welcome to Texas.  There'll be other answers coming soon, I'll bet.
