A relative is going to visit San Antonio next month..........wants to know if the the area of Callaghan Rd and Summit Pkwy (Comfort Inn)  is a fairly decent (safe, that is) area.......if not, any suggestions?

Do I need to send an AR15 with her?  No, you can't escort her........

Thanks.

I've never actually looked, in person, at the exact location of that hotel, but that's an OK part of town.  I'd let my relatives stay there, if that helps.

She doesn't need an AR, but hey, being a Michigan resident for the first 41 years of my life, I'd be more than happy to take her shooting.

Seriously...if she needs some help while here in San Antonio, I'll IM you my phone numbers...that's what we do, or should do, on ARFCOM.

EDIT: clarity

I grew up in Troy - the north end of it.  Lived near Livernois and South Blvd.

Graduated from Avondale High School.

I have family in Hazel Park and Warren, my uncle is a retired LEO from Detroit.

I'm wondering if we're gonna have our 30 year HS reunion this year...I may go...still no word yet, though.

Wanna hear something weird?

I lived in Troy, but went to Avondale.

While stationed at Rhein Main, I went to the FSO, and met a medic there, and after we became friends, he told me he lived in Troy, but went to Troy High.  He lived just down the road from me.  IIRC, he said he lived around the area you said you did.

He was my age I believe...married an English lady.  We became friends...he couldn't get Cat Y back from Germany and I did, so I traveled with his two Labs, and he met me at JFK.  I have pics of those dogs somewhere around here.  He got out of the mil and got a track scholarship to Tennenssee.

I remember his first name, but not the exact last - close though.

Man, that was 25 years ago.  Ouch!

...and don't be alarmed by the sporadic gunfire around the Alamo or Riverwalk...  Most likely its the Parks Dept herding grackles up and down the riverwalk.
