According to Dallas Morning News.

Of course, 99.999% of Texans do not know what the AWB really is.

It may be a Dallas paper, but the poll must have been taken in Austin.

Yeah I think I'm gonna have to agree with you there. Has anyone else notice that the media keeps referring back to the LA robbery and how they robbers were using full auto? I think the problem is when someone hears assult weapon they think of automatics but they fail to realize that semis can be assult weapons too.

They think automatics cause that is what the liberal left media has spoon fed em for the last 10+ years. I'm betting that most of those 80% have never even handled a rifle of any type.

It's all in how they ask the questions.  They have pre-qualifier questions, which for this poll probably were "Are you a gun owner" or "Are you a member of the NRA?"

Answer yes to either and you get a dial tone.

It's easy to lie with polls like this.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

That poll shows 80% of those asked know nothing about the ban, full stop.  I had an hour-long talk with my father-in-law tonight, a veteran for chrissakes, and he's ignorant as toast about the AWB.  Ask him about it and you'd think we'll all be walking around with 100-round magazines and grenade launchers tomorrow morning.  To make matters worse, he nearly strokes out when you explain to him how the National Firearms Act of 1934 did NOT make it illegal for individuals to own "machine guns" - a believe he's held onto so strongly I have to re-explain this to him at least once a year.

Like a lot of people, he believes police Chiefs speak for everyone under them and for the people in their jurisdictions, that people equate the gun with the crime, and that the police are there to protect you instead of often being relegated to responding after the fact.  In short, my father-in-law is part of those 80% polled despite my repeated attempts to educate him on the difference between what the "gun grabbers" say and what responsible gun owners are really all about.

We've won a victory and will be able to enjoy its fruits tomorrow, but we can't relax!  We have to keep educating that 80% out there even though at times we feel or .  We won't get through to all of them but that's no excuse for quitting!

I saw the same crap in The Houston Chronicle. They posted a pic of a guy firing a full auto, SBR Uzi. I wrote the lady who wrote the article (aka the dumb bitch ) and explained that the horrifing, panic causing "machine gun" in the photo has been regulated since 1934. And of course, the pic the use has a guy with a bunch of tatoos.
