Well, it's been a long time coming (since February '02), but I finally got a job with KBR in Iraq.  I leave for orientation on the 21st of this month.

Has anyone been there?  What can I expect as far as climate conditions?  They sent me a checklist, but first hand experience/advice on what essentials to take would be a tremendous help.

For all of you still unemployed, keep the faith. I had just about given up.  I did not manage to get a IT/Comm job, so I had to take a foreman position, but hey.....somethings better than nothing!

Thanks for the kind words guys.  Can anybody suggest a good tactical folding knife to take over there?  I am considering the Kershaw Leek....any other opinions?  Also, can anyone tell me a good place to shop for outdoor gear in DFW?  I will be in town Monday morning to pick up a certified copy of my birth certificate from the Dallas County Courthouse.

From what I am being told, this is basically gonna be a year-long camping trip.  I also need suggestions on good luggage since no lockers will be available.

The only useful tactical knife over there is a MilPar M6 mounted to the business end of a M-14.

Spydercos are cheap and durable. The Military model is not so cheap (~$145) but a serious tool.

Also, can anyone tell me a good place to shop for outdoor gear in DFW?

There is an REI on I635 just west of the Galleria mall.
