Can't say anything about downtown KS, by my wife and I did a "bar-hopping" tour of the "Plaza" last night (celebrating our anniversary), and WOW, that was a lot of fun.  Ran into one of my Military History Prof's and his wife, and we just hung out in a few good bars BSing.  Had a great time.  I'll definitely recommend that area for future visitors.
