Oahu

The Koko Head Shooting Complex

To get there from Downtown Honolulu, head east on H-1 continuing onto Kalanianaole Highway when the freeway ends. Continue on Kalanianaole Highway through Hawaii Kai. Drive up the hill and past Hanauma Bay. Once you pass Hanauma Bay you start on a downhill slope. You'll come to a sharp left hand turn followed by a pretty long straight away. About half way down this straight on the right is the Molokai Lookout. The Koko Head Shooting Complex entrance is just a stone's throw further on the left. There's a blue and white sign marking the entrance.

The Koko Head Shooting Complex is the ONLY public shooting range on the island of Oahu. The complex is comprised of six (6) individual ranges:
100 yard rifle range with metal gongs to 440 yards
25 and 50 yard bullseye pistol range
200 meter Handgun Metallic Silhouette range
Open area combat range
2 American Skeet fields
1 American Trap field

Membership is open to anyone who has access to MWR facilities and to the general public as space permits. No more than 1/3 the club can be the general public. But don't let this stop you from shooting. Anyone can shoot in any match. For more information call the Louis at 497-5464 and leave a message. Someone will get in touch with you. Or just show up at a meeting. Meetings are held on the 1st Thurdsay of every other month at the St. Louis Alumni Club House.

In the Match Rifle Category the Basic requirement is the rifle be a bolt action or semi-auto with metallic sights and a magazine capacity of at least 5 rounds. That means you can shoot your Mauser, SKS, REM 700ADL or your Tricked out Custom Match Rifle, essentially any rifle cal .223 to .30. In the Service Rifle Category only the M16, M14 or M1 and their civilian equivalents with metallic sights are allowed. Other requirements apply to Service Rifles so contact us if you have any questions. In the Tactical Rifle Category you are allowed any rifle .223 to .30 caliber with or without optical sights and a bipod or front sand bag is allowed. Muzzel Brakes are prohibited. The catch is that the targets are smaller.

The Schofield Rod & Gun Club is a private, non-profit organization established to promote the safe and recreational use of firearms. We are sponsored by and located on the U.S. Army's Schofield Barracks in central Oahu, home of the 25th Infantry Division. The S.R.G.C. operates a rifle/pistol range, shotgun range, and archery range on most weekends. The S.R.G.C.'s leadership and operations are run by the volunteer efforts of the membership. To join, you must be active duty military, reserve/national guard, a DOD civilian worker, or a retiree of any of those categories. Dues are $20.00 a year and 12 hours annual volunteer service to the Club. The S.R.G.C. is affiliated with the National Rifle Association and the Hawaii Rifle Association. To help protect our firearms rights, memberships in those organizations is highly encouraged. Meetings are held at Schofield Barracks, on the second Wednesday of every month at 1730 hours.

MCBH Kaneohe also allows shooting for active duty personnel and their guests.

Koko Head was the only one I knew of until now, Ill visit the Schofield one a lot if its any good.  I use the Ft Hood one here in Texas, only cause its free.

You might get access, but not authorization to shoot.  Post policy dictates what you need for range control, and if the range control guys dont wanna come out then you wont be shooting on post.  The law doesnt require them to cater to the public, it just means that you can rightfully step foot on the range.

You will need a DoD ID to shoot there, and/or membership to an approved shooting organization. Military bases are on high alert these days, dont test them. IM/Email many of us In Hawaii on this formum if you need further info.

To be honest, no.

I know of no legal public target shooting areas on Oahu other then Koko Head Range. Yes it fucking sucks, yet the state laws are in place.

Cannot shoot within 50 yards of Pali Highway, that zone is off limits to firearm hunting; bow and knife only legal.

I stopped by the Big Island Gun Club a few weeks ago and watched a highpower match.  It is a nice range and the shooters were all very friendly.  I also had a long talk with the club president and he is a great guy.  The range in located off Hwy 11 in the Glenwood area.  Membership is $65 a year or $35 if you participate in a work party.  If you're on the Big Island this place is worth checking out.
