Home Depot and Lowes sell N95 masks.  
I recommend you pick some up.  NOW.   These last in storage for a while if you do not need it.
If a real outbreak does happen and you do not have them already, well most likely you will be SOL.  Pick up some gloves too while you are at it.

Your doctor can call you in a prescription for Tamiflu, although at this point you will need to wait a day or a couple days as the pharmacy stocks are being depleted.  If a family member begins having symptoms of the flu after contact with someone with flu, that member can initiate the tamiflu therapy.

Honestly though, prevention is the key.

Wash hands after touching anything outside of your home.   Avoid touching your mouth, nose or eyes, as that is how it enters the body.
Stay atleast 6 feet away from anyone with coughing, runny nose, sore throat.  Do not touch anything they have touched.


For individuals like Fro who are in and out of other peoples houses everyday, you may want to wear gloves and a mask if the person is showing any signs of infection (runny nose, sore throat, cough, fevers, chills, body aches, (with this particular virus it appears there is some diarrhea and nausea as well)).   Honestly at this point, I would probably wear gloves when in strangers homes simply b/c of our international airport.   In addition i would stay 6-10 feet away from anyone who appeared sick (if they appear sick then I would not enter without a N95 mask).

I apologize, but I may not be answering questions on here today.  The hospital is swamped and I have patients backed up to see me as it is.

I have a descent supply of these masks that I got when the whole bird flu crap was going around.  Cobby county CERT told us to get some.

anyway I have used them for various painting and sanding needs around the house so I figured I would pick up some more on the way home.

well wouldn't you know it they were sold out!!!! (almost)

I went to the paint counter and found 3 double packs and asked the guy where they bulk packs where.  he said that shelf was full of them yesterday but for some reason they are selling quickly now.

I went to the tool isle and asked where they were.  the guy took me to the safety glasses area and had a blank look on his face.  he said they used to be here and this shelf was full of the 20 round packs.  he looked around a little and said there were some on the top shelf but had to get the forklift thingy to get them.  so I waited and talked to him while they were getting them down.  he said he just got there and worked yesterday and he knows they had a full shelf of them.  he said he had no idea why they would be gone so quickly.  I told him that the N95 masks are the ones for the flu virus.  he said everything made sense then.  while I was standing there, no lie, THREE other people came up and asked where they were.  

they opened the new box and I took a 20 packs for $20 and left.  the 2 pack was $5.


I just found this to be funny.  first EBR, then Ammo, then primers, now N95 MASKS!

My in-laws say it is in Connecticut but isn't being widely reported. They have some(5) schools closed from kids taking a spring break trip to Mexico and coming back sick.

The GF said she was taught social distancing at work today..... should walk an arms length away from each other .... cough into bended arm and not into your hand ... and wash your hands for 2 mintues.

FYI on the "one" us death.  The casualty was brought over the border into the U.S. already sick.  In my book that doesn't count as a U.S. casualty, but I am not officially an "epidemiologist".

Isn't it funny how this SWINE flu started right about the same time our PIG president went down there to mexico for his visit with all the little dictators.

Last I heard, there was a case at Northside hospital that a coworker of mine took there.  The individual just flew in from another state that I don't think had any cases yet.

Still no cases in GA at this time.

Do not get confused with flu and "swine" flu.

We may certainly have deaths from the flu, nothing atypical about that.

We are looking for a specific mutation in the "swine" flu.
That mutation has not been found in GA
YET.

I wish I could write all the reasons why I think
GA is gonna be OK, but I will just be typing stuff that is already out there and spending the whole day doing it.

confirm case

Since Friday, I have treated MANY (I'd estimate 70-80) people who were concerned that they had Swine Flu.

Of these, only 6-7 had the classic flu-like symptoms of fatigue/malaise, cough, and fever.

One tested positive for Flu B (recall that Swine Flu is a Flu A); all of the others were negative.

Regular garden-variety flu is uncommon, but still present despite the end of 'flu season.'    

Swine Flu is still very, very rare (according to the cdc's website a few minutes ago, 100 cases in a nation of over 300,000,000).

Be cautious, but maintain calm.  Maybe read a book.  I hear Stephen King's The Stand is good.

Also Thursday, the head of Georgia's Division of Public Health says the CDC has confirmed the first case in that state, a 30-year-old woman from Kentucky who was hospitalized in the town of LaGrange while visiting west Georgia.

Short answer is as short as seconds, or as long as 48 hours or more.  They say it depends on the surface type.

I appear to have the flu.  Wednesday afternoon – running nose, sneezing, and head congestion.  I have bad allergies & assumed that was the problem.  Thursday – added sore throat & body aches.  Thursday night – slight chest congestion & all the symptoms above.  Temperature 101.5

This morning, I feel better than last night.  Still slight chest congestion & coughing up some mucous.   Temperature 99. Slight body aches. Head congestion & runny nose is minor.  I haven’t even taken any medicine this morning to relieve symptoms except Tylenol & vitamin c & I’m doing ok.

Just check temp again - 98.3.  Chest almost clear.  I just worried because I have heard about the flu appearing to go away then hitting back harder.

No one that I know is sick & none have even left the city in the last few weeks.  I am staying home away from everyone until this clears up.

I never choose a new doctor after mine retired last year & don’t feel like going to the emergency room.  Should I continue being a Man (stupid) - just resting & drinking plenty of fluids or go see someone who knows what their doing?

From your avatar I assume you are a VET.  If you are not already registered at the VA, grab your DD214, put a mask on and go to the VA (Just principle, nothing to do with Flu specifically)
Depending on any travel or interaction with people who have been traveling is the determinant if it is suspicious for swine or not.  
 
If you do not have a mask, make extra sure to avoid contact with other people, keep your hands away from your mouth, nose and eyes and keep your hands clean (to minimize spread).  
Either way keep your hands clean and try not to spread the infection.  (sounds like you are doing the right stuff as far as isolating yourself).
If you do not have a mask, they will get you one as soon as you tell them you think you have the Flu.  

The VA E.R (atleast in ATL) started preparations for this earlier this week.
They should be ready for YOU, it will not be a surprise for the hospital/clinic for you to show up at the VA telling them you think you have the flu.
They will do a rapid test and take a culture if they think it is the flu (based on hx of travel and interaction with others) and interview you to see what medical treatment is appropriate for you.

I looked at my new medical insurance card & it had a new doctor's name. It turned out that she was from the same office as my old doctor. I called them & I had been switched automatically when my old doctor retired.   I told them that I thought I had the flu & I could come in to be examined. They said that they were booked up & if I felt very ill, I should go to the emergency room.

I didn't know were the VA hospital was located. After seeing it was located downtown & I live north of Acworth, I went back to bed.  Probably not the smartest move.  However, most of my symptons are gone are greatly reduced.

I just going to stay home away from people & reload ammo all weekend.  If it goes bad, some one can have the cartridges that I make. Just disinfect them 1st.
