Does anyone know if each county sheriff's department has their own payscale? If they do, how can you find out what a typical deputy makes in a year?

Sorry I do not know the answer to your question...  I originally thought this might be a thread about UPS drivers.

Each Sheriff's Department will pay different than other counties. Same goes for each individual munipality PD.

Sheriff's 'Deputies', in the county I live in, only make about $36,000 a year.

Police Officer's pay is public knowledge, should be on record with the clerk's office or clerk treasurer's office.

Deputies do make different amounts county to county.  The one thing that is a constant is that their retirement is based off there three highest years of earnings.  So if you score and get a top level job your retirement is much better.  On the other hand, the very political way sheriff's departments work if you get moved down you can be screwed or forced out.

Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure it varied from county to county...

From what I hear the boys up here at Purdue, yep they have their own police department, have one of the highest starting salaries in the state, around $44,000.

That's pretty good, but I believe Carmel PD is higher than that.  I know that Ft. Wayne City & Angols PD are paid really well too.

Actually, if I recall correctly New Palestine was higher than Carmel! How times change!
