Not the best, but I sat down for a few minutes tonight and typed a letter to Gov. Ehrlich and explained why I won't be returning to my home state. Here's a copy....


Governor Ehrilch,

I would like to take the time to congratulate you on your victory in the Gubernatorial race. I realize it's a bit late for congratulations, but Uncle Sam and the U.S. Army have kept me busy for quite some time. I proudly voted for you in the last election by absentee ballot. Now that my career in the Army is over I found myself faced with a tough decision, one I do not regard lightly. Do I return to my home state of Maryland or do I stay in the Commonwealth of Virginia? Having grown up in rural southern Maryland and with over 200 years of family history in Calvert County it was a tough decision to make. In the end it came down to personal freedoms. As is obvious by my choice to serve my country I value them above nearly everything else save my family. It is my firm belief that the Bill of Rights is our Founding Fathers’ conferment of our GOD given rights. Such rights are inalienable; so much as they should not be restricted by the laws of man. It is our solemn right and duty to protect ourselves, and our loved ones in the event that were are attacked or threatened with bodily harm. Due to the current laws in Maryland regarding the Second Amendment to the constitution, which unconstitutionally and unwarrantedly violates my right to defend both myself and my family, I have come to the conclusion that my family and I will not be returning to Maryland.

I think you should add a little something about not the "common man" being able to obtain a CHL...but that's just MHO.

Damn, forgot about the CHL thing, oh well there's always another letter! I do in fact plan on mailing several hand signed copies to his office(s) much like I did to Sen Warner of VA about SB 659. One letter to 3 different offices, volume baby! Anyhow what did you mean by confirmed confirmation? I never thought about sendign a certified letter to the Governor? Hmmm can it be done?

Give Ehrlich some time.  Unfortunately, his most imortant issue this year is NOT guns.  It is the horrible budget crisis, left by glendenning, that constitutionally has to be resolved this year.  He has to cut and try to make new income programs, like slots which was steamrolled by the dems, to resolve the budget and/or raise taxes.  It won't be until next year when he does as he stated and reviews the current gun laws and tries to do something about it.

I'm not blaming Ehrlich for any of MD's problems. Glendenning was a POFS from the get go, and he won on welfare and crackwhore votes. Gun laws aren't the only reason I'm not returning to Maryland, but hey he doesn't know that! Anyhow he has a full plate and I wish him luck. I'll write a follow up letter later explaining that I will return to my home if and when it's free again. Until then I will play a version of the INC and work it from the outside. Does anyone know if it's a crime to pretend to live in a state? If I used my home of record address could I get into trouble once I'm out of the Army? Just curious.

A crime to pretend...I dont think so as long as your not trying to pretend with the IRS.

My contract with the Army is comming to an end. The past 5 years have been great, but it's time for me to move on and settle down. As such we've come to the conclusion that NorVA sucks and we want to stay in Hampton Roads/Tidewater area if possible. After the 19th of May I'm officially unemployed and will become a *true* resident of VA even though I've lived here for 3 years. As it stands now I think I am a dual resident, I sent letters/postcards to reps from both states.

I'll printing and mailing htis letter to the Gov. soon. Any further reccomendations? I'll be drafting a letter soon to let him know I will consider returning to MD if and when he repeals someof the Socialist BS laws that they now carry on the books.

Did you send the letter yet?  I sent a letter to the governor, through his website, back on the 29th of April.  It was basically regarding CCW and his control over the issuance of permits since this is a "may issue" state.

I have received no response and am wondering how long it takes to get a response (if any at all)

I e-mailed this to the Governor through his site [time stamp from ARFCOM] 4/16/2003 9:19:46 PM [/time stamp from ARFCOM]  shortly before then...I've still not recieved any response as of yet. That's why Ifeel the need to physcialyl mail it to his office.

On a side note I mailed 3 copies of the same letter to 3 different offices of a rep here in VA regarding SB 659 (Protection of lawful commerce in arms). Hey if they don't check every single name from every letter in every office they'll just think that it's THAT important to their constituents. Perhaps we can get a group (internet) together to write shells of letters so fellow ARFCOMers can mail them to their reps as well? What say ye? Yea, ne, stupid what?
