Hey guys.  Does anyone know if there is a person or company in the Twin Cities area who threads AR-15 barrels?  I have some post ban barrels that I want to "upgrade".

Thanks!

Brad

Randy, of Territorial Gunsmiths in Hopkins.

I don't have his number handy at the moment, but someone else will be along with the info in a minute or two.

I believe Jakezor was going to have his barrel threaded there eventually.

How much does that sort of thing usually cost?

Bring him coffee and/or cigarettes.  Jakezor and I went up there on Saturday to have a look at these Sistemas I'm refinishing, and he smoked damn near my whole pack of smokes.  That's OK because we got a 3 hour 1911 class for it, and some misc. 1911 parts.

Oh no......he and I would get along great.  I'm a huge scotch fan.  My wife just bought me Glenlivet "Archive" 21 year.  Best damn scotch I've ever had.

Yeah, he really set me straight about these 1911s.  I was ready to fork down some cash to replace parts that turned out didn't need to be replaced.  He saved me about 400 dollars worth of Brownells parts.  I'm now just basically doing a repark/reblue, spring set and trigger.  About $200 bucks for the both of them, with a little extra for labor.  This guy knows his stuff on 1911s, no qualms about that.  He also has some of the funniest retorts I've heard to date.  When I was listing off the parts that I THOUGHT needed replacing, he said "As much as I would love to fuck you, you're just not that cute"

Mat, FYI, Jameson is Irish Whisky.  The other two you mentioned are Scotch Whisky.  If you drink "Scotch" then that is what they are talking about.

Jameson is for coffee.

I'm strongly considering having Randy build me a custom Caspian to my specs. Does anybody have any pics of 1911's that he's built or done extensive work on? I keep forgetting to ask him about it when I'm in the shop.

Actually I asked him that same question just the other day.  He said with a bagful of 1911 parts (all Caspian as an example), it would take him 3 days to finish and fine tune the gun.  8x45 dollars and hour x 3.  About 1100 dollars give or take, depending on how well you want it tuned.  That's pretty much a Kimber, TRP, or GSR right there.  Randy told me it's probably best to start with something of a higher quality finished gun, and tune it from there.
