I want to travel by pickup from my house to Michigan via Wisconsin.  I want to target shoot on property that is in the family.  Questons:

1) no extended cab--can I put a ban-era AR and a preban Polytech AK behind the seat?
2)Would I even be allowed by law to transport to and from through these states for this purpose?

Or should I just leave my babies at home?

In Wisconsin you are good if they are unloaded and cased, they don't even have to be locked. I don't know anything about Michigan.

Sec. 478.38  Transportation of firearms.

   Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or
regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person
who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting,
shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a
firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where such person may
lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where such
person may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such
transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any
ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly
accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle:
Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate
from the driver's compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be
contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or
console.

cased and unloaded is the rule for WI.  i wouldn't worry at all about bringing your stuff here to shoot.  machine guns are legal here..i go blasting out at a gravel pit all the time and i've never been hassled before.  as long as your stuff is legal, don't worry about it.
