I want all you with creative minds to post your ideas of what training sessions or courses that you would like to see put on locally here in Minnesota. As many of you already know, our staff has their own ideas. I would like others in put though, as I want to make sure that we are not missing out on something or not addressing someones needs or concerns.
A few of my ideas: AR15 Armoring 1911 Armoring Shotgun Armoring Glock Armoring Vehicle Issues (again as well as other stuff) Engagements while injured or handicapped Team Tactics Engagements with loved ones present (again as well as other stuff) Scenario Based Decision Making Field Emergency Medicine Knives & Improvised Weapons (Again, of which many of you missed out) Cold Weather Shooting (Again) Stress Shooting Stay Safe, Greg Sullivan "Sully" Chief Instructor www.thedefensiveedge.com |
How about hostage negotiations?
two in the chest, one in the head, right? Seriously, how about night or engagements in darkness/flashlight/night site use ? |
I'd like to take the AR armorer's course.
Possibly a 1911, would build ups be included? |
I think I'd like to attend these few courses...
AR15 Armoring 1911 Armoring Shotgun Armoring Glock Armoring Vehicle Issues (again as well as other stuff) Engagements while injured or handicapped Team Tactics Engagements with loved ones present (again as well as other stuff) Scenario Based Decision Making Field Emergency Medicine Knives & Improvised Weapons (Again, of which many of you missed out) Cold Weather Shooting (Again) Stress Shooting LOL... I can't afford to attend all of them, so I'd have to say my vote goes for the following: 1911 Armoring AR15 Armoring Field Emergency Medicine (These are skills we all overlook, but likely should have) Team Tactics (More shoothouse room clearing, etc.) Vehicle Issues More movement shooting practice, less push-up practice (Guess I can get this at most Alumni events though; but you'd likely include the push-ups for free, right?) There are TWO other issues that I was thinking would be good (but difficult) to practice: 1.) Night-Shooting. Practicing night / low-light shooting with the use of flashlights, handguns, ARs, and/or shotguns. How to deal with issues such as Muzzle Flash, target identification, night-time defensive shoot/no-shoot drills (would be good for CCW holders). 2.) Something I think would be interesting (yet somewhat stupid in a way) would be a sort of course similar to the tactical carbine course, but with weapons that each individual is somewhat unfamiliar with (or is somewhat unconventional for "tactical" use)... Such as trying to use M1 Garands, SKSs, or other firearms (such as bolt-actions (or surplus firearms, lever actions, etc.) that we may not be familiar with... Perhaps this is something I should just try to train with on my own though... Not many people want to try "Tactical" shooting with any rifles other than their AR-15s (or M1As ) with their fancy optics, dots, slings, or their <Sully Mocking Mode>National Match Two-Staged TRIGGER! </Sully Mocking Mode> What do you guys think about these? Sully are there courses already taught that teach some things like this? Or an Alumni shooting/camping event would be kind of fun. Bonfire cooking, camping, shooting, etc... There are a *TON* of things I'd like to learn regarding shooting... For me it's just a matter of coming up with the money and time off work. |
I would attend most of the courses listed. The team and vehicle stuff is especially fun. Field Emergency Medicine, Knives & Improvised Weapons, Engagements with loved ones present, Scenario Based Decision Making, and Stress Shooting would be great to learn as well.
The armorers classes would be great to take during the winter months to keep the brain working. I would also like to take a low light class. A weapon retention class would be great. It would be nice to have a chance to shoot up an old vehicle and different barriers to see firsthand examples of penetration and deflection. |
+1 I'd even come up from Texas to "visit" my aunt and uncle in Cottage Grove... FOR DINNER! |
Nah.... Fer bastiches... I mean hostage takers... One in the head... why waste ammo ? |
I didn't see any class in that list I wouldn't take in a heartbeat.
I'd second the low light idea.... more easily done on an overcast winter day. ( I learned a lot the last time! ) I like Quinlan's idea ... maybe a "lab day" sort of thing? I do realize that we would have to come up with car windows and the like on our own... not to mention the clean up. (And save your milk jugs!!) I''l think on it some more.... |

I have a 96 Neon that I was planning on donating for the tax deduction. We could find another use for it.
Cool list...I'd be interested in all of those, Glock or 1911 armoring would be last on my list, but I'd probably attend them just for the learning.
I'd like precision rifle, how to use mil dot scopes, adjust for windrift, adjust for different bullet weights, etc. I would also like to see an issues or catch up type day...Some of us aren't as good of a shot as others in the class, I would like to know what I'm doing wrong. The tactics classes are fun, but if you can't hit the target.... Team tactics, survival, and improvished items (weapons, tools, gurneys, etc) would be interesting. I've got 20 acres of secluded property that could be used for such a class (5 acres mowed, 5 acres 6' grass, 10 acres wooded)...The discharge of weapons might not be possible (back stop issues), birdshot might be doable though. |

I would like the Vehicle issues, loved one, and knife courses. I absolutely would attend armoring courses but have one question. Would we come away with some sort of "certification" that we could use to get us some work, say for a law enforcement center?
I think that i would put my vote in for team tactics, stressed shooting, cold weather shooting, and AR armoring.
All the classes sound great. Still waiting for HG 1 though (gotta improve my pistol marksmanship) he
Top choices- stressed shooting, team tactics (w/ pistol), Scenario Based Decision Making, Field Emergency Medicine, Knives and Improvised, 1 day ar15 armoring |
Team tactics with the use of airsoft or paintball. If you dont check your corner or your six you get painted.
If we decide to do this I know a few people in the auto salvage industry and I could get a car for a good deal or possibly donated for a shoot. |
Hey, Hey, Hey... We're talking about SULLY here! We don't need no stinking AIRSOFT or no PAINTBALL! SULLY's a COP! He might be able to get us some SIMUNITIONS to use for training! Fair warning though... They'll hurt a LOT more than paintball or airsoft (but are MUCH more realistic). |

In 16 days, I will be 18 and I plan on signing up for the first DE class available!
The inabality to travel with a weapon has left me unable to take any classes up untill now. Any of the above mentioned classes or even the existing ones woudl be great!! |
I love 96 Neon yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (sp/Ed) I would like to learn how to exclude others from our fun reindeer games, besides paying 110$ and comeing out.
Because I do not play well with others ask that old man fed gunner that ammo snob will shoot federal hydrashok ammo all day and i have to use Wolf. But anyway, I think it is fun to get zaped with the tazer and maced with chemicals so a less leathal day would be cool and funny also. We can put someone in the hurt locker and don't have to shoot them unless you want, it is a valuable option that people who come to class don't explore that often. On the ther side I want to zap fedgunner for fun and profit cus those pics will make alot of money an old man floping on the ground is funny stuff. |
Does that mean we have to wear our kevlar vests AND our Depend underwear??? |
Wouldn't be a bad idea |

The Taser works through Body Armor!!! Yes I do have simunitions guns as well, but I think we should heavily consider another great tool, www.pepperball. com , after all no pain no gain!!!
Is anyone interested in learning how to make a Ghillie Suit??? Keep the ideas coming!!! Stay Safe, Greg Sullivan "Sully" Chief Instructor www.thedefensiveedge.com |
Ghillie suits are likely of great interest to some here... I made one when I was in high school (from an "Instructional" video). It was strong when in thick brush, and the netting never came off. The only two problems I encountered are: 1. I forgot to double up fabric under the elbows & knees. Holes quickly wore through those spots. 2. I never could get the color just right with dyed jute twine. Taking a ghillie class would be interesting for me... I'd like to see what you do differently for techniques. Precision shooters might like taking the ghillie lesson! That said, I'm still dreaming of taking the 1911 Armoring class! If any of the classes are ever going to use Simunitions, please remind those attending that they should bring a nut-cup... Trust me when I say you don't want to go to the hospital (like someone else I know). Additionally, something to go along with the Precision Rifle shooting course would be some additional scout/spotting instruction as well. (Range Topography/Target Cards & Rifle Data Log) Sorry for the long post. Just tossing out ideas that some people might (or likely won't) like. |
Well if Pepper is not right for you, they make a ceramic ball for breaking windows, we would be able to opt for this just for you!!! Afterall, No Pain No Gain!!! That reminds me someone still owes all of us about 1600meters of 3 second sprints in full load out. Stay Safe, Greg Sullivan "Sully" Chief Instructor www.thedefensiveedge.com |
I think even Simunitions would hurt less than ceramic balls... HOWEVER, we are having a rash of people parking illegally in private off-street permit-only parking. They've been towed on multiple occasions, but they never seem to get the hint, and the same cars are parking illegally almost every day. Could I buy some of those ceramic balls for some "persuasive" uses? J/K |

hostage INTERREGATION... -Warlock |

Actually, a class on how to fak 1972 Airforce memo's would be really helpful.
Something that talks about use of fonts and superscript might be handy. ;) |
::sorry for the thread-jacking::
Oh c'mon now death! Just because I signed you up with "Queer eye for the straight guy" isn't any reason to be bitter! I'm sorry they got rid of all your BDU's.. but It's not my fault. REALLY! I mean man, wanting to see me do the "crappie flop" at the end of a taser.... It's not like I'm the one that posted that picture of you on "Gogoboys.org" I was told your fuschia speedo was a big hit with the "metrosexual" crowd tho. Why be mean to me? You are the one that got the free bikini wax. Besides, now you know that pink and purple plaid IS your color. |
Ghillie suit would be cool, also Simunitions and 1911 and AR armoring. How about FN/FAL armoring class
Any word on the Precision Rifle class yet? Last I saw the 26th was being considered, any new news? Thinking of going grouse hunting this weekend tho too. |
Fed, you KNOW Plaid is sooooooo 2003... |
Sully,
Are your courses eligible for P.O.S.T. credits? Also, where are your courses usually held? Thanks |
I asked him the same question in the past...
I can paraphrase for you lightly. In short, YES. SOME OF THEM are worth P.O.S.T. credits, and several are not. We will have to wait until he chimes in later with a list of exactly which courses are good for P.O.S.T. credit. Could you get us a list of these courses, Sully? |
Yea but you were wearing a skirt at Kirans when we all went out for Quins B day so those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
I do whant one tho, do they come in german flag colors? Because I am not Irish or Scottish nor would I claim to be. |
secure.utilikilts.com/indexold.htm They even come in camo. |

Outstanding work Q!
Paul when will you be sporting that purple cammies? |
