A man walked into a Kroger in J-town and shot a stranger in the back of the head, then shot him multiple times while he lay dying. He then went to the parking lot and shot a woman multiple times. The shooter was white and both victims were black. While in the parking lot, the shooter exchanged gunfire with a third person. During that exchange, the shooter said, "White people don't shoot white people" and fled in his car.

The shooter was apprehended shortly after the shooting. He has a long history of mental illness, domestic violence and years of court orders forbiding him possession of firearms. Mayor Fischer said that we need more gun laws to stop this kind of violence. He did not say what kind of law he thought might be effective in these cases.

So there was an execution inside the Kroger followed by a gunfight in the parking lot that ended in a gentleman’s agreement and then the shooter was arrested without incident.

How in the holy fuck does that happen?

That is not what happened. That isnt even what a “gentlemen’s agreement” means.

Alleged shooter shot a man inside the Kroger. He then went out and shot a woman in the parking lot. Alleged shooter was white, victims were black. This will be important later. A good guy with a gun, who was black, is trying to get people into the store to safety. A confrontation arises between said hero and alleged shooter and they end up exchanging gun fire. Alleged shooter then flees and is confronted by a white guy with his gun drawn. Alleged shooter says ge wont shoot if the guy doesnt shoot, adding that “whites dont kill whites”. This is according to the son of the second armed citizen. There are reports of a 3rd armed citizen who also didnt shoot.

Barry Laws of OpenRange and the guy leading the Concealed Carry Louisville group have been providing narratives of why you should NEVER engage an active shooter, the for-certain lawsuits, etc. They are both wrong and as self-professed leaders in the local pro-gun arena have disgracefully failed to capitalize on this amazing feat, evich according to anti-gunners never happens: a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun. In fact, Lou CC guy stated

That sounds almost as strange to me. Three good guys were there and this guy just drives away after shooting a couple people and exchanging shots with another. The whole thing just sounds bizarre. I’m not saying that ever person carrying needs to jump up into action but all these people drawing down on each other seems odd. If my gun comes out in public there most definitely will be some shooting. Everyone’s skin color and “remarks” are really irrelevant, because crazy people are crazy and they say crazy shit. White people don’t shoot white people. Lol. Since when?

Crazy ass situation all the way around.

Now there you go. You have managed to say all that needed to be said about this incident and have captured all of the relevant facts and nuances that needed to be captured. Too bad the Courier-Journal could not do the job as well and as encapsulated as you have done. "Crazy ass situation all the way around", absolutely!

While I agree that my statement summarizes the 50K foot fly over view. Crazy people doing crazy people shit, there does need to be some failure analysis that still needs to be done. There were multiple failure that lead to this event. Newspapers are just looking for a headline so that people will by their irrelevant and archaic form of news. Hate crime sells papers and this was no doubt a “hate crime”.

This dude was crazy as a shit house rat.

By multiple accounts this guy was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Ruled disabled IIRC.

Had multiple domestic violence convictions, including some against his parents and his ex wife which interestingly enough was African American.

His own father said he was a danger to himself and others.

Had assaulted an officer in court during a proceeding about attacking his elderly parents and had his firearms rights suspended for two years. Two years? Really?

There was plenty of decision points that could have stoped this long before he ran into an armed citizen at Kroger. The armed citizens were too little too late.

I am truly interested in how this guy could get a gun and where this guy got his gun.

I think we all can agree that a paranoid schizophrenic with multiple violent offenses has no business with a firearm, but yet here we are.

The topic of armed citizens and their reaction and level of engagement is well ... more nuanced.

Crazy person doing crazy shit. Yes, got it. Right on target.
Sane, rational, responsible, elected people trying to keep batshit crazy person from hurting anybody. No, No, No. Complete failure. Didn't care as long as they didn't hear about him. Didn't care enough to look into his progress and condition. Didn't care if he had gotten a gun. Didn't care if he was taking his meds. Didn't care....  Didn't care... Didn't care....

OK, what's up next? Next Batshit crazy person step up to the plate and take a swing at the ball. I know. Let's pass a new law that says batshit crazy people should not kill other people and sane, responsible, law-abiding people can't own guns. Problem solved. And now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

WDRB briefly showed an interview with the armed citizen, Dominic Rozier, who engaged the POS. They apparently exchanged fire in the parking lot after Bush began to raise his gun toward Rozier's wife. He stated protecting his family was his first priority. He apologized for causing damage to strangers cars(they showed a car with shallow-angle bullet holes in the hood). It's probably pretty easy for two individuals to break contact while trying to avoid being shot in a parking lot full of cars.

Regardless, a concealed carry holder, Mr. Rozier, saved lives. His wife and his own, if not others by putting the POS in retreat.

I would like to see the security footage from this event. I will assure you there is high quality video of this guy from the point where he exited his vehicle till he drove off. Doubt we ever see it.

Eye witness reports are often skewed due to stress, adrenaline, and other factors that change the way we remember events and time lines, so video evidence is a nice baseline but doesn’t tell the complete story either. Not saying that anyone has lied but they could very well be remembering them incorrectly. Either way CCW holder did what he needed to do to protect himself and his family.

I have so many questions about this event and how this guy ended up there on a rampage.  First question I have is this guy prohibitied from firearm ownership?  If not, why the hell is he not? He has quite the interesting past. If so where did he obtain his firearm then? As a supporter of the 2a these are questions that are important to me.

Yeah cause it not like anything could go wrong....like the other guy doesn’t stop pulling his. Lmao

I’m guessing that he just lost sight of his opponent. He didn’t decide to stop, he just no longer had a viable target to engage.
