You would not believe how great that sounds, I love that smell its awesome. Its funny because we got a breadmaking machine about 6 years ago as a gift and we have never even opened it up.

All I have at the moment is white flour, so that's what I used...

...and it's not bread machine bread. It's real, honest-to-goodness, hand kneaded, twice-risen yeasty fresh bread, and it'll be done in about 15 minutes.

:licks butter off fingers before typing:

...mmmmmmmm...

Good stuff. Haven't made bread in a long time, trying to get back in the groove. This was a new recipe, and I'm not all that impressed...though it beats the hell out of that store-bought crap (that I usually eat).

Try this one!!!!

Beer Cheese Bread

Ingredients:

3 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup extra-sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup green onions, chopped
12 ounces beer (or substitute non-alcoholic beer)
Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and thoroughly grease the inside (bottom all four sides) of a single loaf pan. Reserve. In a large mixing bowl, sift flour and sugar together. Add grated cheddar cheese and chopped green onions. Thoroughly mix all ingredients together. Add beer and stir until the ingredients are uniformly moistened. Spoon bread dough mixture into a well-greased loaf pan. Bake for approximately 1 hour, or until the loaf is golden brown and emits a hollow sound when tapped. Cool on a wire rack, and store in an airtight container. May freeze for up to 90 days. Slice to serve.

This recipe for Beer Batter Cheese Bread serves/makes 6.

That beer cheese bread does sound wonderful, and I'll try that recipe one of these days. It'll have to wait about two weeks, though, for my semi-monthly trip to the grocery store. No beer and no green onions in the house. Sounds like a great way to preserve those green onions for an extra week though, since I only buy them every other month (that's what semi-monthly means).

Children, this concludes your vocabulary lesson for today. You will be tested on this word's usage and spelling at the end of the week.

I just picked some up a Sam's yesterday and it wasn't that expensive. One pound will make a LOT of bread, and it was less than $3.50 including tax.

Talked the old man into stopping by the grocery store tonight, so he's picking up some whole wheat flour for my baking tomorrow. I'm thinking a good honey-wheat and maybe try my hand at a sourdough.
