It’s absolutely beautiful regardless of where you start.
It is kid friendly provided you keep the length of your ride appropriate for their age/endurance level. The gentle grade for most of its length can fool you into going further than you planned on going. |

With kids I’d stick to the first half and stop , the second half is looong and flat.

I've done the whole Creeper Trail many times and recommend it.
One thing, though: I think the rates charged for a shuttle are nuts. $25 per person for a 20 minute ride from Damascus up to White Top station is too much. Used to be $13 not too long ago. |

I rode the trail from Abingdon to Whitetop and back on my first ride.
Only issues were dodging the rental crowds barreling down the hill. The next time I took the shuttle and to the top and biked back to Abingdon. Top section was a bit rocky. Carry a few tubes. I flatten both trips. |

I've done Damascus up to White Top and back, and you're right, avoiding the folks flying down the mountain is exciting. That's why I prefer the Damascus to Abingdon section. Hardly anyone rides it.
