Anyone planning on going to the Salem gun show next weekend, the 21st and 22nd? I'm not going to the Roanoke show this weekend due to work commitments, but I'm free next weekend and will probably go Saturday.
Anyone else? Want to meet somewhere, like the Pancake House on Apperson next to the bowling alley? |
OK, maybe the Pancake House wasn't a good idea. I've only been there once, and it wasn't too good.
Famous Anthony's on Main St? That would give those of you coming off the interstate (hint hint HokieShooter) a good place to stop and fuel up first. |
Ill be going to that show. I hope its alot better than the roanoke one this past weekend. My goal is to find a nice stripped lower for this delton kit and thousands rounds of ammo I have sittin around.
I would love to do it but I don't really have a good reason to spend $30 to do it :/ I'm just a poor college kid :P
Im a poor college kid to. What would cost you 30$ tickets are only 7$?
The last time I was there, the only stripped lowers I could find in quantity were RRA's at Dark Sun. There were a few other random ones in certain booths, but not too many booths had a lot. I'm sure you can find something though. I'm tryin to switch my P220 for a P228.
I'm at VT too Maverich, maybe I can give you a ride. My truck doesn't love gasonline as much. Let me know. |
Well maybe count me in, then :) |
Anyone get a $1 off coupon yet?
Damn, I'm a cheapskate......more money for gun stuff. |
You are welcome Sir! I might actually make this show. I have to go to Radford Saturday to drop off and pick up some stuff to the young un. Danny |
Soooooo where and when are meeting, exactly? From what I understand, MobileChomp and I will be heading in Saturday morning.
Saturday morning was when I was planning on going as well.
Famous Anthony's on Main St? It's about a mile or so off of exit 137. It's stock FA menu (the same as in Blacksburg), pretty good. That work for everyone? |
Did you want to meet for lunch, or breakfast? What time do you have in mind.
I guess I will be there Sat. as well.......Hopefully this will be a better show than the one in Roanoke last weekend. I know if I see some Georgia Canned Heat for $90 I am a buying it.
And I'll help you tote it out! Danny |
Guess what guys? My track meet was "cancelled" (aka I have tendonitis in my hip), so I will be coming to this show, and be bringing along several people with me. One already has an AR, and the others are either just home from a tour overseas and thinking of buying an AR, or just being introduced to firearms. So did we decide on Lunch or breakfast? And at famous anthonys? I need to know about what time we are meeting and where, cause we were planning on getting in to the show about 11am. I might be able to talk them into going earlier if we are meeting for breakfast.
-Ben |
How far is Salem from Beckley WV? I was there a long while back, seemed like a couple of hourshippie.gif
Breakfast work for everyone? FA's opens at 00-dark-thirty, but I was thinking something on the lines of 9:15 or so. It's maybe a ten minute drive from FA to the Civic Center.
Going to pass on Famous Anthony's. Will be at the entrance @9 Hopefully the pick 'ens will be better than last week.
Do you guys do a meetup at the VCDL booth like we do at the Showplace anytime during the morning?
Danny |
I'll be at FA's and the show, probably wearing a gray Michigan State University sweatshirt and jeans, and driving my red Ford Escape.
Not really looking for anything big, but I would like to sell my ParaOrd P16-40. |
I'm thinking of going on Sunday afternoon, but all I really need is some cast lead bullets... Would one of you guys going an Sat keep an eye peeled for me and see if any cast lead vendors are there? I'm looking for 200gr SWC for .45 ACP
If I go on Sunday afternoon, I can sometimes get a good deal from a lead dealer who doesn't want to load the stuff back into his car |
I will be at FA sometime between 9:30 and 10am. Closer to 9:30 I think. Look for the guy with a girl or two, and wearing a green Southern Virginia University sports jacket. Might have more people tag along, we will see.
-Ben |
Leaving shortly.
Green fleece jacket, grungy camo hat, blue jeans. 6' 5" you can't miss me. I'd like to meet as many of you as possible. Danny |
Danny was good to see you again. Thanks for lunch it was tasty.
So did anyone get any toys? I just picked up 500rds of canned heat. |
I got to meet a couple guys, not sure who was who as far as screennames, but it was nice to say hello. I missed you completely Danny, dunno how. I watched for someone to look up to!
I got 4 new magazines for my M1A and a case of SA 7.62 for a total of 300 dollars. Not great, but hey, the mags were NIW made by CMI. -Ben |
I saw you from about 4 isles away and "poof" you were gone. Maybe next time. Just like the guy holding the (what appeared to be) Colt MT6400C that was right in front of me when we went into the arena. I'd like to have a MT6400C lower for the collection. Danny |
Same here Bro. Thanks for being the Chauffer too! I hit the other Wally World and got 3 of the six boxes they had of you know what. The wifey got some stuff for the daughter and when we got to Ratford, she put my show booty in with daughters stuff. We get to first exit of Salem and phone rings. Dad, I have your 5.7x28 ammo, 3 big boxes of primers and some black parts. (OH SHIT)! Had to turn around and go back cause I need the primers tomorrow for another member here. She managed to meet us at Blacksburg with my booty. All in all a great day, again thank you! Danny ETA: Remember the guy with the eye patch, shoulda got a pic for these guys here. CAN YE SMELL IT! |

I was the one with the green jacket who asked about the pistol. Wasn't sure which one you were though. -Ben |
I was the one with the toddler, we chatted briefly in the entrance to FA's. The damn place was as crowded as I had ever seen...must have been some fogey convention I hadn't heard about.
I must say I was less than impressed, although the $1 off coupon helped (thanks Danny!) take the sting off a little. I noticed that there was no mention at all in the ad that they were not going to have the back room open.
And I walked out with....nothing. I wasn't looking for much, just some AR parts and goodies, and couldn't find any of them. |
To a point, I can understand the shiny rock and jewelry vendors, they're wife/girlfriend pacifiers. Beef jerkey and peanuts? Cool, I eat them and occasionally buy some.
But laptop cases??? WTF does that have to do with guns??? That and I asked three separate supposedly AR-oriented vendors if they had Beta Loaders, the ones where you put five loose rounds in, push the plunger, and it stuffs them into the magazines...runs about $15. All three had no idea what I was talking about. So much for knowing your industry. |
Don't feel bad.
I asked the one AR dude if he had Knights Rail Panels and he didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I saw 1 upper (ask Nate) that was for sale, was nice. Had 14.5 in M-4 barrel, I asked if was permanent FS on it. Said yep. Yea right, was nice though. Nate caught the Pirate sneaking around though. Danny |
It was, indeed another pathetic show in my taste. I did get to shoulder my first Barrett .50 cal and I must say I feel like that was worth the $6.
The funny thing about that guy was that he said his kid builted it but "got side tracked" by snow boarding and didn't finish the lower. |
Two of my buddies went. One probably had on a black (grey from being so old) Fox Racing hat, and the other probably had a Browning hat on.
They both said it sucked, the back room wasn't open and Elliot's wasn't even there with boxes full of mags.... Glad I skipped out on this one. Hokieshooter, If you don't mind me askin', How much was that canned heat? |
