....or nightstand, bureau drawer, under the bed, wherever.

I'm thinking of bump-in-the-night time. What've you got to handle things if it gets ugly?

I've had all kinds of gear over the years, but for this have always kept just a simple revolver w/+P.38's in a lockbox, along with a D-cell maglight nearby.  Am now thinking of:
(1) an on-board light for my recently acquired Beretta Vertec, OR
(2) a dedicated light/forend for my Rem. 870 12-gage pump

Can't decide between the greater mobility/retention qualities of the pistol for a possible house clearing scenario (did I really hear anything?) versus the indesputable knock-down power of the shotty for the alternately possible bedroom-barricade scenario (sit-stay-pray).

So I thunk: what philosophy and treatment are fellow VA arfcomers using?

Guess I coulda posted this for general discussion, but I know you guys better. Also I figured we would be more likely to be attacked by the same strain of mutant sombies and/or alien mothership and/or renegade road gang.

Thanks for any feedback (and pics definitely welcomed)!

I replaced my Mag-Lite with a SureFire E2 a few years ago. Do yourself a favor, get a SureFire G2, plastic, about $30, 10-year lithium batteries, it would fit inside two D-cell batteries if they were hollow, light, with a tail switch, and MUCH brighter and more reliable than the mag-lite (really!).

Easier to retain your handgun indoors/close quarters. Hell, get both ;)

Ruger 22/45 with 2 spare mags in the floor safe for the wife.  Still trying to decide which snubbie to get her.  That and to actually get her to go shoot.

Hence my having the Smith 66 (which will stay put regardless whatever else I get going). My wife submits to emptying a cylinder on-average once every five years. Guess that's better than nothing, although "that disaproving look" would probably stop the guys quicker than anything else.

My side of the bed:  SA 1911 Operator with Streamlight M3X and an HK USP, both chambered and in condition 1.  Surefire G2

Susan's side:  1911 Commander in condition 1

On the dresser are my carry guns which are a Champion steel frame 1911 and a lightweight Micro 1911.  The Micro is my daily carry and the Champion is my "walk'n the dog" gun.  I have a pair of shorts next to the bed with a holster on the belt so if I must get up and investigate outside, I can throw the Champion on quickly.

Downstairs, there are two pistols hidden in various spots.  One is another 1911 Champion LW and the other is a Glock 19.  Both have paddle holsters next to them.  There is also an 870 in the closet.  All pistols have at least 1 spare mag near by.

Me and my friend carl both own surefire E2_s but his has the 60 luman bulb and it will blind the #@!#$ out you , mine will throw you off at night but his will make you squint in broad daylight.

AR carbine with weaponlight
Kimber TLE/RL with weaponlight
Remington 870
Surefire G2

None are loaded, but all have a magazine standing by. Those are "bump in the night" guns. The handgun and G2 are closest, but the others are close enough. At night, the first thing I grab is the G2. The handgun is second, once I grab my glasses. If ya can't see it, how can ya hit it?

Usually I've got a 1911 or a Glock 19 in the nightstand.  When my wife is out of town the M4 takes her side of the bed.

It's not very tactical, but I keep both a shotgun and handgun available in the bedroom: Mossberg 500 with buckshot,or a Glock 30 with Meprolights and a 6 volt lantern light. It's worked comfortably for past bumps in the night. There's plenty of room under the bed for both.

The Lacroix 76mm High-Impluse Weapon System.  Built by Lacroix Pyro-Technologies, pimped by Fabrique Nationale Herstal. 84, 66, and 40mm versions are also in the works.

3.3lb shell with a 2.2lb payload. Breach-reloadable I would assume. More than 700m in indirect-fire mode and about 300m in direct-fire mode. It's quiet too. No hearing protection required. It can be fired from inside a vehicle as well.

Hopefully they'll throw a rail on there for a flashlight and I can grab an IWB holster cause that sumbitch is going to be my new CC.

Let's see what all we got:

Well, handguns certainly have dominated by my count with a total of 33.

Rifles were second with 12, but shotguns just behind at 11.

There were 3 dogs and one cat.

Also one piece of some kind of heavy artillery.

There was one reference each to shoes, skeletons, a boogy man, and a collection of various high-lubricity substances.

Just counting the handguns, rifles, and shotguns comes to 56 from a total of 29 respondents. Clearly most folks are taking a diversified approach to the problem.
