Where's Sleepy Creek?  I didn't see it in the "ranges" post.

Yep!

If the road to the range area clears up. Last time I went up there (2wks ago) the road was glare ice. Evidently that area doesn't get salt/sanded like the main road.
I'm lousy at directions. Can somebody give a more detailed explanation on how to get there?

OK lets say the 30th then That would be Tuesday.

10am ish good for people ?

I live in Herndon, I go up via rt. 7 to 81 to the range if people want to meet somewhere along the way. I have  really crappy car for that road to the range (Mustang) but its made it up many times before.

Hey, I'm off the 30th so I think I'll be going. Anyone want to car pool/help me find my way? I'm coming from the lovely city of Fairfax.

Cool the 30th it is,..say at sleeply creek @10 am....Signal,..were coming from two different directions...ARMLT15, let me know were you want to meet up,..say like stonewall arms @9:15ish...Its a 45min ride from there..Let me know.....ANGST, yeah bring the M1A if you will,.I'll pick up some .308,is port surplus OK?........Might bring a friend along(4MAT) on the boards so we may have a nice turnout....UNDERDOG

Yep!

Two days and a wake up...I'll finally find out what's "exactly" in the package (actual model). Barring any weather problems the 30th sounds good. What time does Stonewall open? I should also have some ammo in one of these packages. How about meeting at "Wendy's" in Stephens City (exit 307 off I-81)? Might be easier than giving directions to Stonewall.

Underdog , port is fine I am gonna be shooting port , south african and lake city through it.
Link Posted: 12/21/2003 12:32:07 PM EDT
[#10]
So.....Angst and the other guy sounds like there coming in Route 7...Tony, I only suggested Stonewall because you and i are from the winchester area....If were planning on making a caravan out of it then maybe we should meet at the Sheetz on 7/berryville ave say around 9:30ish....if not then just say everybody meet at sleeply creek at 10am and if ARMLT15 need directions Him and I will meet up and he can follow me...anyways, let me know

Hey!

Went up to check the road to the range this morning. Still Ice! Looks like some brave souls might of went down there with 4 wheel drives. There a a few bare spots where it appears someone got hung up and spun um til the ice melted and they hit gravel. I have a dodge sedan w/ front wheel drive, I didn't chance it. It will need a few warm days with rain to melt that stuff. Then a few more warm dry days afterwards. Keep your fingers crossed. It wasn't a complete waste I did right down the directions and general mileage. I'll post em later (my wife took off with my note book in the car).

Luckily thats what we are supposed to get....

If you could check on Sunday or Monday though and let us know that would be great. My car barely makes it down there on a dry day

No 50 or full auto?  Figures.  Any way to confirm that?  If it doesn't have a sign saying it isn't allowed, it must be allowed.

Oh well, guess I won't be going up there.  I'd have to fill out paperwork anyway.  Guess I'll stick to my local 3 hour away Staunton Range.  Would have been nice to have a closer range.

Have fun guys.  (bastards who aren't working that day)

Hey Angst:

Great post w/ the range rules. I'm confused on number 12...Why would you bring horse feed to the firearms range? Although riding a horse to the range may be the only way to get there at this point. I think I answered my own question!

Merry Christmas To All!!!!

This sounds like fun, if I do not have to work Tuesday count me in. So far Monday will be a work day for me unless I get caught up on some work pending. If I am able, I will bring up some of my toys that I build with ammo so others may be able to shoot them. Also I have a very large 4x4 so if the road is nasty I will volunteer to shuttle others.

Berkeley Springs, WV

OK I found this:

Sleepy Creek WMA (22,928 acres) Berkeley and Morgan counties.  Located approximately six miles southeast of Berkeley Springs and eleven miles west of Martinsburg, travelers may use state Routes 8/2 (Highland Ridge) and 13/5 (Greenwood Road) in Morgan County or state Route 7/9 (Jones Springs and Shanghai) in Berkeley County.  Oak-hickory forest covers 3,500 acres while Virginia pine-oak forest blankets the majority of the area.  Sleepy Creek is primarily managed for deer, turkey, grouse, squirrel and raccoon, with wild turkey the featured game species.  Sleepy Creek Lake, 205 acres, contains a good sport fishery for largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie.  Boat launching facilities are situated at the dam spillway and near the midpoint of the lake.  The area also has a rifle range.  Seventy-five camping sites are available and trailers over 17 feet are not recommended due to the graveled roads.  Water and vault toilets are available and a nominal camping fee is charged.  Owned by WVDNR.

But how about some directions?  Or maybe the grid L/l if you still have them ANGST?

Slim.,Which way you coming?....I can meet you at the MickyD's at exit 5 in WV and you can follow me from there...Say 9:30am?...That should give me time to eat my Mcgriddle
BTW the ammo is mostly for giggles,..Prob only take 400 or so of 5.56...taking 600-700 of 9mm in case anyone wants to shoot my 9mm AR..And 100 or so 7.62 to play with ANGST's M1A

If I don't go shooting around here this afternoon, I'll be coming from Baltimore.  Probably out I70 to Hancock and down (522 I think) if that'll work.  Haven't been out to that area in a while, and never to the range,

OK, gents, I'll be joining you as well.  I might make the meet at Exit 5, but if not I'll meet you guys up at the range.  I shouldn't have any problems getting in with my all-terrain Nissan Altima, should I?

Bringing my AR, M1 Carbine and a couple of pistols.  I need to pick up some ammo tomorrow morning and I'll grab some .308 as it looks like there'll be some there.  Any other ammo I should get?  I also have some paper targets and a real estate sign some careless realtor left on the corner of the property.  They make great stands.  See you guys there.

I didn't make it out, went down into the DC suburbs for lunch with my mom.  WTF is there so much traffic in Laurel at lunch?  If I ever end up with a job in DC, I'm gonna have to live somewhere else...

We had a great time up at sleepy creek, well I did we all had the opportunity to fire other members weapons and look over all the Iron. Underdog was taking my new hbar and tearing up the 200 yard line, really showed me that the man can shoot!

I would like to thank everyone there for a great time and being able to put up with me, everyone I met was a new face and really impressed me as first class people.

Thanks for the great time and if no one objects I have the photos downloaded off the camera and will post only if others who are in the pictures agree.
