thanks for the fix, yes i beleave they are 20mm found a 50 cal ammo can about half full.

seems a bit odd to find a can of 20mm projos out in the middle of nowhere uld probably melt them down and separate the lead from the jackets. don't 't know if the jackets are copper or not, they look kinda heavily coroded.
if you did melt 'em down you could sell the lead to reloaders, or sell the seperate lead and copper to a recycler.. |

No uranium in 20mm. No lead either. The only copper is in the driving bands.
If they have aluminum tips, they are TP. Anything else is nose fused HE / API / etc. "Do not eat". 20mm Info |

I have a few spent 20mm and .50 cal that I found on Nellis years ago. They used to have gun pits on the backside of the flight line where they used to zero and test fire aircraft guns 50-60 years ago.

i've got some 38mm projectiles and brass, some of it with 1888 headstamps, some nose and some base fused, but empty.
no Air Force at that time, this stuff was from naval guns, Spanish American war trophies brought home by my great grandfather. i just wish i had the collection of swords, bayonets (18"+) and cutlasses. unfortunately i think my uncle sold those things all off. my folks gave away some of the 4" to 6" projectiles and shells to a local museum.

I've got a 20mm Lahti magazine a guy and his kid found out in the Black-Rock desert.
He left the weathered wood carry case there. He also found live .55 Boys rounds at the same location. Their condition makes it clear they had been there a long time. Back before Sierra Harry and his cronies went ape locking up the Nevada desert as "Wilderness" the military did not have to stay in any certain locale to practice. The whole Black-Rock has been strafed many times, .308 and .50 brass is everywhere. We even found the body of a rocket in a small cave near Double Hot Springs. |

Perhaps I should have been more specific.
The 20mm bullets like the ones in the OP's picture do not contain uranium. Given the blue paint remaining on some, they are likely TP - but that does not mean every one is TP. Again, there is no lead to recover, and heating them in an attempt to do so could in fact be dangerous. The Mk149 APDS round did at one time contain uranium. Since replaced with Tungsten, the Mod4. The APDS bullet looks NOTHING like the bullets in the OP. I doubt you will find the Mk149 Mod0 or Mod2 laying around as pulled bullets. The bright orange plastic discarding sabot should serve as a warning if you do. Is that better? |

The Mod 2 was DU for taking out incoming missiles at relatively close range.
