My wife and I will bea heading up to NV in March for a FS 4 day course.  I have an AZ CCW, my wife does not.  I will check packing.org, but was wondering what laws are in NV.  We'll be staying in Pahrump for a few days and then in Las Vegas for a few more.  Can I open carry in both places?  Can I carry concealed in both places?  Can I carry in my hotel in Las Vegas?  What if I walk through a casino?  How about at the Vegas shows?  I don't drink, so I won't be in any bars.  I've only had my CCW for a few months, so I am still a bit new to this.

Thanks!

I think you are gonna be dissappointed to find that Nevada doesn't recognize any other state's CCWs, even though they recognize ours. This is something we'd like to change, but we have butted heads with the Sherrif's and Chief's Association pretty hard this year already!
Good luck.

Open carry is legal, but you may get some unwanted attention in any hotel or in the corridor in Las Vegas.

Pahrump is still pretty redneckish and I frequently open carry when we are out that way hunting. No problems......

Thanks for the info.

I guess I will have to resort to my Surefire E2D and knife.  I read over on packing.org, but didn't understand the knife laws.  I have a 3" auto folder that I usually carry.  Is it legal in NV?

Actually, NRS 202.350 defines a switchblade as:

     (f) “Switchblade knife” means a spring-blade knife, snap-blade knife or any other knife having the appearance of a pocket knife, any blade of which is 2 or more inches long and which can be released automatically by a flick of a button, pressure on the handle or other mechanical device, or is released by any type of mechanism. The term does not include a knife which has a blade that is held in place by a spring if the blade does not have any type of automatic release.

So if you have a Benchmade 3100, it is not prohibited by Nevada Statute.

Clark County, and the cities of Henderson, Las vegas, and North Las Vegas have county and municipal codes prohibiting switchblades of any length. Boulder City does not, so a less than two inch switchblade would be legal within the city limits.

Although Nevada does not recognize other states CCW, it does allow non-residents to hold permits. It probably does you no good for this trip but if you are able to get the class in you might be good to go for next time.

The NRS does not address a length restriction on folding knives. Clark County and the cities of Henderson, Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas have a restrict pocket folders with a blade length of three inches or greater. Boulder City has no ordinance restricting blad length..

I've always heard the supposed conventional wisdom regarding "switch blade" knives was that if you were militiary or police you were legal with these items. How true is this? I saw no reference in the quoted NRS statues. I am in the Security Forces assigned to Nellis. I ask because Ive recently aquired a Benchmade "switch blade" and I want to know if I won't get bent over the hood of a NLV or metro car if I get caught with one.

Guys, I give you links to the NRS so you can look these answers up yourselves.

Going back to NRS 202.350

     4.  Except as otherwise provided in subsection 5, this section does not apply to:

     (a) Sheriffs, constables, marshals, peace officers, correctional officers employed by the Department of Corrections, special police officers, police officers of this State, whether active or honorably retired, or other appointed officers.

     (b) Any person summoned by any peace officer to assist in making arrests or preserving the peace while the person so summoned is actually engaged in assisting such an officer.

     (c) Any full-time paid peace officer of an agency of the United States or another state or political subdivision thereof when carrying out official duties in the State of Nevada.

     (d) Members of the Armed Forces of the United States when on duty.

     5.  The exemptions provided in subsection 4 do not include a former peace officer who is retired for disability unless his former employer has approved his fitness to carry a concealed weapon.

So, while on duty, you're covered.

not trying to say it's illegal or not, it is curious wording that is rather vague.
I stand by the open carry assumption, I 've carried because of it since i was 18, never had a problem.
I've been told things by people in high places before as well and it's not above them to be wrong.

I was told by a Metro 911 dispatcher that has been retired for a year now saying that they got calls regarding firearms all the time....people walk by and see a gun on the floor of the car and dial 911 about it.  Or stuffed between the front seat and console. Some of these peeps need to chill out I tell ya. Driver was not around it was just a gun sitting there on the floor of someones car and yet they dial 911 to report it.  Anyways...back to open carrying they would get calls with people outside the steps of city hall and "exercising their rights" no hassling of them. But around town it is legal but you might get hassled by law enforcement thats all. Contrary to belief tho I have to say alot of Metro officers are pretty cool about firearms if you tell them you have a permit.....I had to pull my gun out infront of my apartment cause this drunk guy tried to run me over with his van and the officer came and never asked to see my permit or anything - just whether I was hurt or not and took my name and left looking for the guy- who never got caught. If you open carry just be smart about it and dont do stupid stuff or mouth off remarks to people.

I believe the salient part of this code is the "any manner carry concealed upon his person" clause - this is referring to concealed carry of weapons, not any old type of wearing of weapons.
