Hey all, you guys seem to have a good group of fellas, and I am a former Army transplant to the SLC are in Utah (originally from Oklahoma).  I just got out of the Army about 6 months ago, and am looking for a smiliar crowd to burn up ammo with.

No I am not a convert to the LDS-"Taliban", just finishing my college as a Sinner in the land amongst so-called "saints"....

There is no UTAH forum here, which really bums me out.

I go to Wendover every couple of months to gamble and shoot up the desert.

I guess since you guys live near Vegas you don't have to worry about taking firearms in the casino/hotel, but, I want to visit Vegas to Gamble AND Shoot.  What is a good way of storing the guns, that is secure?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi William,
interesting question about the storage issue.  The major hotels here in town would probably not have a problem storing handguns in their safes but I would call ahead first to make sure.  Many of the hotels have inroom safes that would be secure.  I assume your question is more direted at long guns which is a little different to say the least.  I would not count on a hotel securing those but you never know.  If they are in locked cases and no one has to see the evilness of an AK or an AR then that may be an option.  Again, call ahead.  It wouldn't hurt to ask.
Another possibility is to check with Metro PD.  I personally would not hesitate dropping off my rifle(s) to a substation for overnight storage.  Don't try this with the handguns though due to the stupid registration law here in Clark County that requires registration within 24 hours of arriving.  This probably would not apply to you but why bring up the question.
Lastly, we are a pretty tight group here in Vegas and I know that several of us would be more than happy to help you out and donate some safe space for a night or two.  Hope this helps.

Now for the tour guide part..........
When are you planning to come visit?  Just so you know, we have a fun shoot the 3rd Saturday of every month that you are more than welcome to attend.  I don't know what you like to shoot but there is a Vintage Military Bolt Action Rifle shoot at a local club the 2nd Saturday of each month and a Sub gun match the 2nd Sunday that many of us attend.  Even if you don't shoot in one of these actual matches, you can shoot at the range as a guest of a member.  Again, hope this helps.

Rick-  Cool.  Thanks for the info.  I have been to Vegas many times, and I keep hearing after-the-fact tid-bits in the forums on the fun that happens when groups get together for shoots out Vegas way.  Yes, I am interested in attending some of the shoots, and would manipulate the schedule to visit accordingly to match up with the club-shoots.  I am interested in the sub-gun shoots, not so much the vintage bolt guns at this time.

I think it would be prudent just to meet & greet, attend and observe before dragging any long-guns out and imposing on anyone.  Thank you for the info, and surmising (correctly) that long-guns were the issue with transporting and storing.

I have a couple firearms interests, as I own AK's, AR's, Garands and an FAL.  I am also attempting to procure a recent production (July 2000) 1927a1 Thompson semi-auto.  Always wanted one since I was a kid watching re-runs of "COMBAT!".

I also have heard tid-bits about the shooting academy that is out that way also.  I am looking to expand my and my girlfriends skills with long arms & handguns.  Who do you recomend?

William_lxix, there is a forum for Utah but it is a little slower than our forum here.

I believe Medicmandan works in West Wendover a bit, maybe send him an IM and see if he can hook you up with a Utah shoot.
