Which means as of right now, state sales taxes are charged on Amazon.com purchases.

They say it'll take a year and a half to get the thing built and operational, but some types of shipping to some places in WI will be reduced time for delivery.

I knew I shouldn't have put off my shopping.

Yeah, I noticed we've been getting charged sales tax on Amazon orders lately.

Now the question is, is shipping going to be fast enough when it's done, that Prime is moot?

They implemented the tax charge on November 1st.

Does this mean some of us may be elligible for aerial drone delivery?

I always thought Amazon was just a storefront for other vendors.  Everytime I order something the order is fulfilled by some other company and shipped direct to me.  Seems like a brilliant business model, so when did they start stocking and warehousing?

Started getting taxed Nov 1, before there is even a shovel in the ground or a single person hired.

It's not for "us" anyway, Chicago is the big market that it will serve. Only cost the wi tax payers $7,000,000 in tax credits.

If you order something from a vendor that isn't in WI, even if it is fulfilled by Amazon, you shouldn't get charged tax. I just did that last night for a couple items, still got Prime shipping, and the price before tax was even slightly less than Amazon's direct price, so it worked out well.

Might be time for a career change.  I hear amazon is a very good company to work for.

As for tax credits, its money we dont get now anyways, but at least we get jobs.

And 5% in sales tax

Just made an order on Wednesday and noticed I was charged tax and wondered what was up with that.
Arfcom comes thru with the answer once again.

As a picker?  No way would I do that.

As an IT guy or office drone of some type, SURE!

Yes.  I know some office drones and IT Folks who went there early on and stayed.  Their stock options made them rich.  The picker/lickers get used pretty hard but they pay well enough even for that kind of work.

Which, oddly enough, was the same time they applied to the state for all their permits and such.  Coincidence?  I think not....

yup, I bought most of my electronic stuff from Newegg agian this year because of the tax. Even if the item was a couple dollars more.

Nice.
Now my stuff may come faster without having to shell out for Amazon Prime, and still no sales tax for us.
I knew this UNFRIENDLY business climate we have in Illinois, would pay off for us, sooner or later .

Only faster if the item you order comes from this warehouse. I'm not sure if there is a way to tell though.

The article that was in the paper a few months ago said it will create a lot of $13 an hour jobs.   They said management and other higher payed positions will be around 40-80K.

Of course you've all been declaring that sales tax before in your yearly tax returns, correct?

I think I'm one of the relative few who can legitimately say yes, I did.

Few things.

Amazon's court case with NY is part to blame for this. http://techcrunch.com/2013/12/02/supreme-court-refuses-consideration-of-amazon-sales-tax-case/

Amazon wouldn't hire WI remote employees before because they would need to charge sales tax in WI.

When a company does not charge sales tax, you as the individual is responsible for paying that to the government. Technically. I don't know a single person who has.
