There is a bill in the house that needs 13 more sponsors to get it out of comittee, I wont go into all the gory details, But it would lift some ATF policies and modify some others. All in gun owners favor. You can read all about it there.....

Here is the thing.....

David Obey, is not a sponsor. He seems to be a pro gun guy and looks to be A rated by the NRA. So asking to co sponsor this bill should not be like asking for Feinswine to do it, unless I am missing something.

SO... all that said if you live in the northwest  woods , fire up the calls , faxs and letters and get him to co sponsor H.R.4900

For crying out loud Kagen is a co sponser , This shouldn't be too difficult.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act of 2007 - Amends the federal criminal code to revise the civil penalties for violations of firearms law and the procedures for assessing such penalties.

Revises the definition of "willfully" for purposes of firearms violations and standards for criminal violations of firearms recordkeeping requirements.

Requires the Attorney General to: (1) make preliminary determinations on firearms license applications and notify applicants in writing of a proposed denial; and (2) establish guidelines for Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) inspections, examinations, or investigations of possible firearms violations.

Prohibits ATF from disclosing information on firearms purchasers other than to a court, law enforcement agency, or prosecutor.

Permits an owner of a firearms business whose license is expired, surrendered, or revoked 60 days to liquidate inventory.

Requires any state agency that stores or keeps explosive materials to report to the Attorney General on the location and amount of such materials.

Allows the transfer and possession of machineguns for use by federal security contractors.

Prohibits taxes or user fees for background checks under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.

Eliminates the requirement of written permission for the use of a handgun for lawful purposes by a minor (under age 18) where a parent or legal guardian is present at all times during such use.

Restricts the disclosure of information in the ATF firearms trace system database.

Increases penalties for possession of firearms by felons with prior convictions of a crime of violence or a serious drug offense.

SEC. 209. BARREL AND RECEIVER IMPORTATION.

(a) In General- Section 925(e) of title 18, United States Code, is amended--

(1) in paragraph (1), by striking `, and' and inserting a period;

(2) by adding at the end the following:

`(3) All frames or receivers of rifles, or barrels for firearms other than handguns, if the importation is for repair or replacement purposes.'.

(b) Governmental Imports- Section 925(a)(1) of such title is amended by inserting `, barrel,' after `or importation of any firearm'.

SEC. 210. CLARIFICATIONS RELATING TO MANUFACTURING OF FIREARMS.

(a) Clarification of Definition of Manufacturing- Section 921(a)(10) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: `The term `manufacturing' shall not include repairing firearms, making or fitting special barrels, stocks, trigger mechanisms, or other parts to firearms, or engraving or otherwise altering the appearance of firearms.'.

(b) Clarification of Definition of Dealer- Section 921(a)(11)(B) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking `or trigger mechanisms to firearms' and inserting `trigger mechanisms, or other parts to firearms, or engraving or otherwise altering the appearance of firearms'.
