I am going to be doing another LAN party at my place in Jan. Looks like it might be Sat.Jan. 7th or Sat Jan. 28th. We are going to be playing BF2 and BF2SF, SWAT4, and some others. If you are interested in joining some of the other members on the boards here just pack up the PC and join us. It's always fun to meet other members. Let me know if you are interested, and what dates work for everyone. I am in the Kenosha area.

The date is January 7th. around 5-6 PM until ?

I'd love to do a LAN thing.  But I'll have to wait and see how generous Santa is, 'cause I'd need a computer upgrade for BF2.

Flamethrower,

Yep just a 1 day thing. We go from 5-6pm until 2am or so. Depends on how the night is going. I will have pop, snacks etc... we usually order pizza and others bring some food, pop, whatever you want to have, there is a Hot wings place around the corner from my house and numerous fast food places if we want to get something else. Other than that its kinda bring what you want food or money to donate to eating and drinks. Just going to have a good time, who knows it may roll into playing Early Sun morning.

We normally play SWAT 4 and Battlefield 2.

We normally play BF:2 single player with bots. No high-speed, so no ranked servers.

I belive we all have BF:2 Special Forces, so we may also be playing that.

There is plenty of food by Batch's house, Wing Stop, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, etc, all within about 5 min.

Any chance of slipping it in?

Unfortunately, nobody in the group plays BF:1942.

Our list of titles is:

BF:2
BF:2 Special Forces
SWAT 4
Unreal Tournament 2004
Call of Duty and COD:Allied Offensive
Call of Duty 2

Also, all games are played on a local LAN. We use a 10/100 switch, but will be upgrading to a 100/1000 soon.

If you have the games, but no PC, I can provide 1 PC to use.

I'm cool on the tech side. Tech stuff is no problem.

BF2 and BF2SF no prob.
Swat 4 no got.
UT 2004 Whats that?? Sorry the only REAL UT "IS" UT.
Cod got, COD "United" offensive? right?
COD 2 I got.

You guys got Serious Sam? or Serious Sam the second encounter?
Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield?

Or Empire Earth, C&C Generals or Generals Zero Hour?? For the RTS players???

How many bots can you get into BF2?

You guys have to move north a little.

Desrt Combat dot Com

BF1942: Desert Combat is basically BF2 without the squad/commander features or ranking system.  It's a free mod that was developed by the guys that DICE hired to code BF2.

BF1942 Can be had for $10 in the "used" bin at EB Games, and is much less system intense while retaining everything else (including the graphic qualities) of BF2.  If y'all are willing to consider it, you can count me in.

I won't be getting BF2 until EA cleans up their code monster, or adds a few more patches.

Drawcut,

The last party we had at my place had about 7 people. the least are 3 people. Even with 3 people its still fun. The games are fun to play and you always have a good time with the other members.

FMD,

I will check out that game. I have only played BF2, SWAT 4, Unreal tournament 204, and Call of Duty. I am up for new games. The reason we play these is everyone who normally comes over for these has this game already. You are still welcome to join us.

Any counter-strike? What is SWAT 4 like? I have BF2, but I don't got the updated patch... how far is your place from appleton? Or mountain.

Would you mind someone 18?

I love UT 2k4, BF2 is okay..., CS, I can pick up COD, used to play alot.

Let me know :)

DavidK,

We have all the patches and I have no clue how far you are from me. I don't know much once I pass Milwaukee. I am in Kenosha, near the Illinois border, close to 94.

SWAT 4 is pretty good, some people don't like it because you have to follow certian things in the missions. its not a shoot anything that moves game, cant kill hostages, or the mission is done. I like it though, makes you think before pulling the reigger, or should I say clicking the mouse. Let me know if you want to make it.

Let me start by saying that I am not telling anyone to break the law.

Theoretically one copy of BF1942 could be used on multiple computers, with the use of a key genereator and no-cd fixed exe.

Of course this is theoretical

Negative!

Punkbuster comes along with, and the DC mod has it's own set of admin tools. A BF42 GUID can be used exactly twice at the same time:  Once for a server, and once for a client i.p. (but with only one machine running the copy at a time).

Ask me how I know.

You are correct. I forgot BF1942 is a transition game where this started to not be possible. I am guessing you know how for the same reason I know how.

Get the latest patches to bring you up to v1.6.9 from EA.

Hopefully you have highspeed, because the two downloads for the Desert Combat mod are over a gig (both available at desertcombat.com).

You need to download and install both the DesertCombat_full and DC_final .exe files.

Thanks, I'll have to try it.

Why are all the Allied and Axis guns the same? It's strange watching Russians or Americans using Enfield MK4's and Japs using German weapons.

No clue.  My buddy turned me on to DC, so I bought it as the base.  I have to report that I've only actually played the full version of BF42 (as BF42) in SP a few times.  Gameplay with the DC mod on MP is an entirely different experiance...think BF2 without some of the StarWars stuff (i.e. no F35, a SMAWs and RPGs instead of those funky AT launchers, etc.), no onboard VOIP or commander/squad features (we use TeamSpeak to work as a group), a slightly easier learning curve when it comes to the helo physics, and only two sides (Iraqi and American).

What it amounts to is BF2 playable on last-gen computers (I use my laptop).

Fixed it.

Most of the models that they share (M16A2, AK74SU, F15, etc.) got ported over to the new engine from BF42:DC. When played on a high end machine, DC is just as "pretty" graphics wise.  What it doesn't have is the eye candy:  ultrarealistic water, individual grass blades moving in the breeze, etc.

Co-op isn't that hard, as the AI is still the BF:42 standard.

You can get play with a P3 or Celeron, 256 MB of RAM, and a 64MB graphics card.  If your in the middle of a dogfight over a ground engagement, things will lag a bit.

I'd reccomend a P4, 1Gig of RAM, and at least a 128Mb Vid Card (ATI or Nvidia makes little difference).  In short, if your computer was made in the last 3 years, you're probably GTG.

It'll be the most fun (and biggest waste of time) you ever spent ten bucks on.

ETA: Except maybe the 6 Months of Arfcom membership you'd get from the same dough.

I only play recreationally at this point, but have been part of a couple of decently ranked TWL teams.  I was offering to bring you up to speed on a new (to you) game, but since you're already a badass, bring it on baby!

I utilize TeamSpeak for VOIP capabilities. Free download at teamspeak.org.

The clan's TS IP is 130.85.33.38, and there's a channel specifically for DC.

I'm the admin for our BF1942:DC server, IP: 130.85.171.39 (listed in-game as "Suess' Soldiers III).

If you don't see me online, you can give me a call and I'll try to hop in.  I typically use a player name of "Fletch".  Hope to frag see you online!
