Most people in the Aberdeen area are just catching their breath, and not thinking about business right now, so I played courier for our bank today, running work, cash, etc, between branches.

Power is on in Aberdeen and Hoquiam with a few outages further out on the power grid extensions.

No power in Ocean Shores, Pacific Beach, Taholah.  Amazingly little damage at the coast, only a few trees down over the power lines, but they managed to knock out the power anyway.  Most of Central Park is without power, and it looks like a bomb went off there.  I think the worst damage I've seen is in this area.

The gentleman in Aberdeen who was killed by the falling tree was a friend of a co-worker.  Very tragic story.  Went to help a neighbor, and they heard the tree coming down, one went uphill and was safe, while the other went downhill and was killed.

Gas lines at every gas station with power and fuel because folks are coming in from the coastal areas.  A number of stations have run out of gas a few times, but Pettit Oil has done great to make sure that fuel still gets through.

A few A-holes were selling full 5 gallon gas cans at $30+ each in Ocean Shores.

Some areas are under a "Boil Water" advisory (Central Park), but without power or gas, some folks are stuck.

Didn't see any flood damage to speak of.

I ended up handing off a 5 gallon propane tank to one of my co-workers, as they are on the end of a road not likely to get power for days.  Gave gas to 5 employees out in Taholah and Ocean Shores, 5 gallons each, so they can get where they need to go and fill up when they reach civilization.

Be prepared folks.  It is amazing how so many got caught short stocked.  Those reminders to have a few days of food, water, fuel, etc need to be followed.

Gotta go home and restock the supplies I handed off.

lets see, 3.25 per gallon X 5 gallons = 16.25

 30.00
-16.25
=13.75.

was the can included?

if yes then thats not so bad.
if no then its supply and demand.

yes it sucks, but its how the world works.

I'd venture to guess that this practice is illegal

I wouldn't be a profiteer.  I'll help somebody, but not profit from their misfortune or lack of planning.  I will gladly pass supplies along at cost, or for free if they can't afford it.

That slide is huge!  I hope everybody is okay in that area.

Our bank's CFO has a family farm just west of Lebam, and says that whole area has seen a fair amount of damage.

Apparently fuel is running up to $7 a gallon in Astoria, no power and the stations don't have generators so they are hand pumping it.

I might be heading down to Long Beach over the weekend if things are bad, my grandparents have a place down there and Grandpa just had knee surgery... Going down Friday since I have it off, and if it's bad I'll be calling into work

Give us a report if you do go - my Mom's got a house down there and I'd like to know how bad things are.

Will do.. I'm thinking it might not be too bad other than a few downed tree's but yeah.. we'll see. I'm a little more worried about water, having seen how mickey mouse the Pacific Co water system is.. though their phones and power aren't much better.

It is a small coastal community.  I am sure you would much rather have it run by Clark County.

No I wouldn't want it run it like any of the other socialist utilities districts in the state, but Pacific Co seems to do just about everything half assed versus even attempting to make do with what's available, and the bureaucracy is pretty awful for such a small utility district.
