Just TRY not to get offensive and name-cally

I read this in a locked msg, I would've replied to it there but.. locked.

Quoted:
What happened was reprehensible and exactly what our soldiers went to Iraq to fight against.
It sickens me, this Liberal Disease that infests America.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First I want to say, I'm not trying to pick on BusMaster, I know this is a common sentiment, so I'm asking everyone.

Why is EVERYTHING wrong with society blamed on the liberals and democrats?  As some of you know, I'm a democrat.  I don't consider myself a liberal democrat, but a democrat all the same.  When people on the boards talk about political issues, I agree with 85-90% of your views

I don't like Bush, though I DID vote for him the first time because I thought Gore was ... well, I'll try to refrain from name-calling, but let's just say I didn't think he was up for the job.  I didn't vote for Bush the second time because of how he dealt with education issues his first term in office.  There were other reasons, but since I am a teacher, these are close to my heart.

If I am one of the dirty, dirty democrats that are responsible for all of our social ills, then why do I usually agree with the political views posted on this sight?

Bunching a group of people together and saying the world would be a better place without them is
   1)  Not accurate and not fair.
   2)  Equal to the anti-semitism of Hitler or the racism of the KKK.  They also make blanket statements about groups of people that are intrinsically different from one another.

Democrats are not socialists
Democrat:  An advocate of democracy.
Democrat: A member of the Democratic Party.
Democracy:Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
A political or social unit that has such a government.
The common people, considered as the primary source of political power.
Majority rule.
The principles of social equality and respect for the individual within a community.

What is so offensive about that?

Please don't be mean, I'm just looking for understanding.

What was the context of his reply? Could have meant socialists, highly offensive.

Do your definitions of democrats reflect actual party behavior? Does your definition of democracy reflect our current form of government? You voted for Kerry?

I'll spare you the blasting of the other points, but this one, in and of itself is just too easy to pass up.

Disliking liberal Democrats is NOTHING like racism and anti-semitism.  I personally dislike liberal Democrats because of what they DO, not the demographic they were born into.  I'd wager that most others on this board would agree with me on this point.

DISLIKING is fine.  I have no problem with disliking.  Grouping them together and blaming them for everything that goes wrong is a problem, saying that they all should be killed is a problem.

I think some of your stats are vastly skewed, I think "most" would be a better adjective.

I don't want to take your guns away.  I like shooting, I believe in the constitution.
I too believe that the schools are advocating a more touchy-feely approach than is healthy for our children and I would even go so far as to say that MOST democrats agree with me.  I want dodgeball back.  Let kids win and lose, those are skills they need too.

on the adam and steve thing, I have no problem with them.

I've no problem with grouping people together.  It hurts my sensitivities not.  Today's age of epidemic portions of sandis manginus won't prevent me from identifying people by certain common traits.

As a whole, the liberal democrats ARE the reason why this country has many of it's current problems.  They can single handedly account for the downfall of personal responsibility.  I'd love hear a compelling argument against this!

And, BTW, I didn't see anyone call for the killing of anyone, let alone a whole group.  Those types of comments are not welcome on AR15.com.

I think the PROBLEM is that you are a MINORITY in the Democratic Party. Many years ago there were good men of principal in the Democratic Party (Truman, Zell Miller etc.) They were men of character, integrity and although many republicans didn't agree with a number of their positions, these men were respected. TODAY'S "DEMOCRAT" is the likes of Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. No morals, No Values, Race Baiters, Whiners and Anti-whatever America or Republicans are trying to do. YOU ARE PROBABLY A DEMOCRAT OF THE OLD AMERICAN VALUES....What BusMaster007 was likely pointing out is the LIBERAL WING OF YOUR PARTY THAT IS NOW COMPRISING ABOUT 75-80% OF IT!!! Americans see through it and thats why the LIBERAL portion of the party is wandering aimless and blaming everyone for their stupidity!

In my opinion, the democrats you mentioned are just loud.  They don't represent most of the democrats out there.  When stupid people are loud, people tend to think they represent the views of many ppl when they don't.

I agree with your characterizations of those few though.

Personally, I find democracy, as it is practiced, to be a ridiculous concept. There are people who live their lives entirely outside the system, nearly everything they do is illegal. They setup phony businesses so they can buy wholesale, they buy stolen handicap stickers, burn farm gas in their cars, work for cash to hide income to qualify for government aid, buy food stamps from drug addicts for a cash discount, steal the tags for their cars, forge titles and bills of sale and file phony tax returns.

And they vote, even if they can't legally do so. I'm tired of importing scam artists and then getting stuck with the bill. The home grown variety are no better. They, and idiot college liberals, in the tens of millions, are the bread and butter of the DNC. If Democrats went after these people to contribute more than they took, I'd trust them with my future. But they don't, they enable them.

The people harrassing our Iraq veterans on college campuses aren't conservatives. The people beating up soldiers in Seattle aren't conservatives. The people rioting during the WTO we're conservatives. Conservatives can't even get an audience with those people, but democrats get their votes. Go read about it on the Democratic Underground.

I gave up on the principles involved, it's a matter of survival. I'm a 53 year-old stright, white male. That's three strikes against me on the streets of Seattle. Sometimes I get the impression that I'd have to be flambouyantly gay and submissive to every minority I meet before they would drop their prejudice.

Fortunately, I meet enough people from all walks of life to prevent me from just giving up on humanity. They are frequently conservative, as least in practice.

Most of my idiot family members are democrats. The smart one agree with me....

Interesting perspectives. Perhaps your post does more to define the problems with platform politics and a two-party system. I've personally never disagreed much with the core principles of the Democratic Party, but the fringe lunatics scare the hell out of me...... same goes for our own lunatics on the right hand side.

Labels and stereotypeing cause most of the political bickering IMHO, and then the folks who want to be important seem to cause the real problems.

da bunny, all the things in your first paragraph, do you think that republicans DON'T do those things?  you are wrong.  I think the people that do those things are dishonest and reprehensible for one reason or another, but I don't think they are united by anything other than the make-up of their character, certainly not by their political party, if they even ARE political.

on "b" how do they vote if they can't legally do so?  I had to jump through many security hoops to vote.  An illegal wouldn't be able to... and aside from that, how do you asign a political party to them?  Why do you assume they are democrats?  I don't get it.

and on the people harrassing the vets and in the WTO riots, they were hoods and anarchists respectively.  I don't see how you can assume that they are liberals or democrats.  Unless your definition is democrats= any nasty person lacking in character morals and/or a sense of personal responsibility...

During WTO I was on the street in front of the rubber bullets... only because I was working at amazon.com on 4th and the evacuated the building right at the moment that the tear gas was flying in front of our building.  The administrators were handing out coffee filters telling us to wet them down and put it over our mouths and noses as we were forced out... ass hats.  sorry, about the rant.

that is all there is to it, whether it is liberal, democrat, republican, or conservative, stupid and disrespectful people will always get more attention and will always get their way and will always piss the rest of us off.

I have always viewed myself as a liberal/democrat/whateveryouwanttolableitas but I had large contentions with my peers (I didn't think that soldiers should ever be disrespected just for being soldiers, I don't think the government should take peoples property away because they might possibly use it in a not so good way even though the constitution allows it, I would prefer the government to stay out of my business, if it doesn't effect anyone else, leave me alone.)  But there are certain points that do not catagorize me as a conservative and actually throw me far from it.

Liberals/democrats who think like this, are quite, just like the conservative/republicans who a lot of the time don't speak up until it is absolutely neccessary, which is sometimes too late.

Okay...sorry...done ranting

+1

Liberalism has played a major part in the dumbing down of America, the decay of morality (not talking about sex here) and respect in our culture and the polarization of politics. And I'll give a single example and leave it at that. Since when did a bitter grief stricken mother, morning the loss of her son, become the poster child for what's wrong with America? I went to more than one funeral for boys, some just a couple of years older than me, who were killed in Viet Nam. I never once saw any of those mothers blaming the president for the death of their son, calling the enemy freedom fighters, and their son's murders. That's the whole crux right there. When the facts become irrelavant so does the message. I hear lots and lots of people spouting off about how this should be this way or that, while totally ignoring the facts. Now that we're a society full of victims deprived of the basic entitlements I guess that works for some people.

Quoted:
Democrat:  An advocate of democracy.

What is so offensive about that?

Please don't be mean, I'm just looking for understanding.

I promise I will go easy.

I pledge................and to the republic for which it stands............

A democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner.
And since race was already brought up herein, I can tell you what the Democrats mean to me.

Lincoln- Whig/Republican
Civil Rights act passed by Republican Congress
Robert Byrd, card carrying Klansman. Edler statesman Democrat
Bill Clinton had two Blacks that I recall. One ended up dead, the other he fired.

GW appointed Powell the first Black Sec of State and Condi NSA, and now she is SS. Clinton didnt come close.

And remember these gems???

Bull Conner, lifelong Democrat and Democrat Party National Rep.

And in spite of all of this, that has occured in my lifetime, they want my guns??? I was born at night, but it wasnt last night. I aint pickin.................

After I hit submit, I have to go back and reread your post on why you are a democrat. And I didnt even bring up the whole homosexual issue. Or liberal judges. Or welfare state. Or weak foreign policy time and time and time again (From Vietnam to Panama Canal to Ethiopia and dont forget it was Dem who dropped the bomb )

I love the thread.

One fact I forgot....

The Republican Party was not so badly split as the Democrats by the civil rights issue. Only one Republican senator participated in the filibuster against the bill. In fact, since 1933, Republicans had a more positive record on civil rights than the Democrats. In the twenty-six major civil rights votes since 1933, a majority of Democrats opposed civil rights legislation in over 80 % of the votes. By contrast, the Republican majority favored civil rights in over 96 % of the votes.

Scroll down to the second paragraph under the title- From Filibuster to Cloture

Trivia- The record for the longest individual speech goes to South Carolina's J. Strom Thurmond (D),  who filibustered for 24 hours and 18 minutes against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

At 9:51 on the morning of June 10, 1964, Senator Robert C. Byrd completed an address that he had begun fourteen hours and thirteen minutes earlier. The subject was the pending Civil Rights Act of 1964.

I categorise Liberals as the enemy of freedom.

Liberal:Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.
Liberal Of, designating, or characteristic of a political party founded on or associated with principles of social and political liberalism, especially in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States.
 according to dictionary.com

let freedom ring, baby!

So in the end, the people who arfcommers bitch about as liberals, really aren't because they are following a party line and an expected behavior, they are not openen minded and searching for equality, but searching for them to be right, and the other side to be wrong.  They are uneducated and naive.  But not Liberal.
